Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community Members
Managing illness
Although it has been another challenging start to the term, I wanted to reassure all of our families just how well our school continues to run, despite a run of illness that has impacted our staff. Our staff have done an incredible job of managing , and continuing to provide a quality education for all, and our students have also maintained calm and focus in these difficult times. We should be very proud.
Reading with your children
I know this is something I have mentioned in previous newsletters, but I want to continue to stress the vital importance of finding time to read with your child, and have your child read to you at home on a regular basis. While our teachers do an amazing job of developing the literacy skills of our students, the ability to read is absolutely a partnership with family, and creating the space for one-to-one read at home, three or four times a week, will support all of the work we are doing at school. Creating a desire to read, creating an interest in books and learning, is a cornerstone of supporting your child to achieve their academic potential. Please touch base with your classroom teacher, and ask them how you can support their reading program, and above all, make time to sit down, and spend time with your child with a book.
Huon and Channel Winter trials
It is fantastic to see a mix of our Year 5s an 6s trialling for the Huon Channel soccer and footy teams. We have some keen and talented athletes – good luck to all who have taken part.

Virtual Learning Centre in Term 3
- High-level overviews for the focus areas of Number and Reading and Writing will be available on the Teaching and Learning Centre ready for Term 3.
- The VLC will continue to have a bank of resources that can be used by teachers to support planning and teaching, as well as by students learning from home for short periods of time due to illness.
- Please note – there are no live lessons planned at this stage for Term 3 and the content has been organised to support revision and ‘catch-up’ learning.
- Students and teachers can continue to access Term 1 and 2 VLC modules and activities which include recordings of explicit teaching.
- Students who access the VLC in Term 3 are encouraged to share completed work with their classroom teacher/s.
Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis

Kath’s Spot
If you are struggling, what are the things that help you the most? Is it time spent with others, or someone shooting you a text to check in, or someone dropping off a meal for you? Or would you prefer kind words, or time and space, or a generous gesture from others?
I think it’s always good to reflect on what we find helpful when we are struggling, because whatever we find helpful, is also a good description of what we could be doing to help support others around us.
I know for me I appreciate others asking how they can help, and offering suggestions of how practically.
Our students this week have been practicing supporting others and finding ways that they can offer help. When they have been in class and out in the playground they have been looking out for others, and they have been helping to lend a hand when needed.
I wonder if you can check in your friend or workmate today and see if you can lend a hand or support on some way. Maybe shoot them a text, drop off a meal, a coffee, or even just give a big cheery hello to someone walking past. It might just be the support they need today.
Many Blessings

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey (for parents/carers of Year 4/5/6 students only)
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Years 4, 5 and 6 at Snug Primary School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department of Education’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: |
The survey will be open from 29th August to 23rd September 2022 |
Who: |
Years 4, 5 and 6 |
What do I need to do: |
You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way. |
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4, 5 and 6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact snug.primary@education.tas.gov.au.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.

National Science Quiz (online event)
This is an online family friendly event hosted by Charlie Pickering on Sunday 7th August. One of our students, Rosie, submitted a video question and it was chosen to be featured. It would be a great opportunity to be involved in with your family if you can!
