Principal’s Report

Hi Parents, Families and Community,

PAT Testing

We have had some really positive news with our PAT testing this year. The PAT tests, used by most Australian schools to measure student achievement, have shown positive trends in Maths and Reading across the school in the last 12 months. What’s been really encouraging is our shift in our Maths data, which has been a focus for us this year. Of course, we still have plenty of work to do (an will always!), but we are excited about the improvement journey we are on!

Volunteer Morning Tea

Our annual Volunteer Morning Tea is on Tuesday December 7, 10.30am in the staffroom. This is when we welcome all of those individuals into our school to say thanks for your efforts in supporting our school students and staff in 2021. As our school is the heart of our community, we couldn’t do what we do without your unwavering support. If you have volunteered at Snug Primary in 2021, thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at our morning tea.

Snug Jingles

Preparations are well underway for the school’s annual Snug Jingles, which will take place on Sunday, December 5, from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. This includes our Christmas Market. If you wish to set up a stall, please book in with the office. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you there for an afternoon and evening of music and fun.

End of year performances

Each early years class will all be performing a short end of year performance for parents and families before year end. Keep an eye out for the date for your child’s class – teachers will be in touch – we look forward to seeing you here to enjoy their moment in the sun!

Reports

End of year reports will go home on Friday December 10. Be sure to ask your child, or check bags on this day!

Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis
Principal

Kath’s Spot

As we merge into summer I thought it was a great time for us to think about the need to stop and celebrate living together. We have been in lockdown, people have been separated, and it has been painful and restrictive for some. And I think no matter what other people’s opinions are, we need to try and be lenient on others and try live alongside each other with patience and understanding.

With Snug Jingles on next Sunday evening at 4:30pm it will be a lovely opportunity to come and celebrate life together. Let’s celebrate Joy, Hope and Peace as we unite as a community. That’s what Snug community is best known for, our ability to put aside stuff and come together to support each other and celebrate the good times. So let’s do just that. I’ll see you there hey!!

Many Blessings

Huon and Channel Athletics Carnival Report

I just wanted to share with everyone how we went on Friday at the Huon and Channel Athletics Carnival.

First of all, I was incredibly proud of everyone who attended. There were a few students, more so in the younger grades who were nervous about going along as it was their first time but once we got there and got into a race they were great. We had quite a few students pull out on the day of the carnival and the day before, which made it tricky. Unfortunately, some weren’t able to be replaced. However - This gave other students the opportunity to participate in these events, which on the day, almost everyone was happy to put up their hand and help out their team.

We won a lot of ribbons which was amazing! Due to the rain, the carnival came to a quick finish and they skipped the closing ceremony, so we were unsure on how our school placed in comparison to everyone else, and still yet to receive that news. I will let you know when I am given that information.

I had some amazing assistance by Ewan and Kristen McIvor (Elliot McIvor’s parents) and Ali and Matilda Nicholls-Howe (Oscar’s mum and sister). All helpers were so incredible help on the day.

It was always going to be a challenge for these students to come back to school early and join the rest of the school in assembly after a big day of athletics and bus rides. I asked them to step up to the challenge, hopefully they did!

Could you please find out from your class who received a ribbon on the day and very briefly reply to me with the results, as I am missing a few! That would be appreciated.

Very proud of the effort, attitude and behaviour that the following students showed.

School Banking

Our last banking day for the year will be Tuesday 7 December 2021 . Please see below for important information regarding the ceasing of the Commonwealth School Banking program.

For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.

Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.

Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.

Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit the link below.

Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
