Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community,
It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through the last term of 2021. We have a lot happening in the last half too – from Year 6 Graduation and Big Day Out, to various excursions, end of year testing, reports…our staff are doing a tremendous job of tying it all together.
Incidental Maths
It has been a big year at Snug Primary around our teaching of Maths. We have devoted a large amount of our professional learning time to learn about, and implement, the most up-to-date practice around teaching of it. And you can help at home! Look for ways to include daily, contextual conversations about Maths. If you’re putting away the dishes, two plates are followed by three – how many all together? How many would you have if you dropped three and smashed them? If you cut that sausage into four pieces, what will you have? (Four quarters or one sausage in four pieces!). Use your imagination, but make Maths fun and relevant to students’ lives. Ask your classroom teacher what they are working on at school, so you can extend their learning at home too.
Sun Protection
Although it has been a pretty wet start to the hotter parts of the year, we know how much risk we are at in Tasmania from our intense sun. We’d like to remind everyone of Sunsmart behaviours, including the mandatory wearing of hats at school during recess, lunch, and for any other outdoor activities.
Additionally, we encourage parents to apply sunscreen to their children (or the children do it themselves) prior to coming to school each day. For those that forget, or need to reapply, there will be sunscreen available in each classroom for students to apply to themselves.
(We are aware that some students have particularly sensitive skin, and are asked to bring their own sunscreen to school if this is the case).
Bikes at drop off and pick up time
Just a reminder that children (including pre school students) aren’t to be riding bikes in the school at drop off and pick up time. We have had a couple of collisions recently, and we want everyone to be safe. Thanks for your understanding.

Kath’s Spot
This week we ran our first Community Morning Tea, with locals from around the area coming and joining us to share morning tea and chat together. We had many visit from both Snug Village and Hawthorn Drive Christian Homes, as well as a couple others from other generations, which generated great conversation. Our Kinder students came and shared what they wanted to be when they grew up, and they sung a few songs, and one of our 4/5 classes joined in for a chat later on. We shared in a cuppa and had some scones together. From there some students have decided to write letters to some of the residents at Snug Village who they had conversations with on the day.
What stood out to me most, was what a wonderful opportunity it was to have many moments of different generations sharing and learning from each other. Those residents that had joined us shared what life had been like as they had gone to primary school, and one had even been a teacher in Victoria. We had laughs together, and the joy on the faces of both students and visitors of all ages was clearly evident.
As we continue throughout our year, and into next year, we want to continue to create moments when our students can learn from those of all ages. We want to provide opportunities for them to ask questions, listen to memories of past experiences, and be able to learn and take away something for their own lives.
Next morning tea though, we would love to see more people in between the older generation and our students, lets lessen that gap, and lets help our students learn from all generations. Community Morning Tea was also provided as an opportunity to create new networks with those in the community, so why not come along and meet new people? Why not bring a friend, and you too can both learn from others and have a great time meeting others! We will publish the next Community Moring Tea date very soon, so keep an eye out on our FB Page, or look for flyers in the post office and the like.
Many Blessings

Class In Focus – Kinder A
In Kinder Possums we love outdoor learning. Our wonderful playground at Snug Primary enables us many opportunities. As part of our “Minibeast Inquiry”, we searched for bugs and insects in our school grounds and recorded our findings. We also looked for evidence of bugs by looking at leaves and seeing if any had been nibbled. Did you know that species of bugs chew leaves differently?

School Banking
Our last banking day for the year will be Tuesday 7 December 2021. Please see below for important information regarding the ceasing of the Commonwealth School Banking program.
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
