‘Excellence is a gradual result of always striving to do better’ – Pat Riley (American Basketball Coach)
Our congratulations go to all our students for their participation and effort in yesterday’s athletics carnival. We saw incredible competition, determination, resilience and all students being good sports. This event is a clear example of why Snug is a school of excellence. My particular sparkling moment was seeing two brothers congratulate each other after a strong competitive finish to a race; both smiling with pride. I would like to congratulate Mr Max Watson for his exemplary organisation, co-ordination and leadership on the day. Mr Watson is always looking for ways to improve but I’m sure you would agree that the carnival was close to perfect – even the weather was spot on.
Term 4 is a busy time and we are so pleased to have many forms of communication to keep our community informed. Our schoolzine newsletter, newsflash, notice boards, Class Dojo and Seesaw are just some of the ways we advertise all the things we do at Snug Primary. We are open to new ways to improve communication so feedback is welcome. Keep an eye out for all the exciting things coming up.
Last Tuesday night we saw our next School Association Committee nominated at the Annual General Meeting. A reminder that all parents and staff automatically are members of the association and are welcome to each meeting. I would like to congratulate the committee members (old and new) as they take up their positions for the next year.

Next Friday we will hold our Remembrance Day Assembly at 10:30am as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). All Snug community members are invited to attend and help us recognise those who gave their lives for our country. Students are invited to bring along flowers from home for this assembly which we will lay on our monument at the front of the school. We will also be planting a new Blackwood Soldiers’ Walk at the front of the school. The original Soldiers’ Walk trees were planted after World War 2, then destroyed in the 1957 bushfires and were later re-planted due to disease. We are relocating those trees remaining and planting new Blackwood trees as we prepare for the new gymnasium site. Classes will participate in tree planting after the assembly to ensure we continue to respect our school’s history.

Dinner. Sometimes it can be great fun cooking in the kitchen, and other times it can be one of those most tedious jobs to do in the household. Do you ever get sick of the question "What's for dinner?"
I have always encouraged my boys to help cook dinner, and that also entails cleaning up after yourself along the way. I have been known to say "A fairy doesn't come along behind me and clean up the scraps and scrub the dish, and I imagine it won’t for you either, so I think you are just going to have to do it yourself along the way, to save yourself time".
Often teaching young people can be harder work than just doing it yourself, but in the long term the benefits will far outweigh the time it takes to train along the way. This week has been the first week of all three boys cooking one night a week, and gee I have appreciated it. Sure Eli, who is Grade 3, I had to direct a bit along the way, and I had to put the meat on while he was grating and peeling, but it was great. And you know what, he was so proud!!
I am the baby of 6 kids, and all 4 brothers had to spend just as much time in the kitchen as my sister and me, and their wives are very grateful for such wonderful cooks. I remember hearing Steve Biddulph encouraging parents to start having the kids over the age of 8 being in charge of dinner one night a week, not something tricky, just pasta and a jar of dominos will do to start off with. I wonder how your children could help you out in the kitchen. Could they help get the ingredients out, or put the scraps in the chook bucket, or set the table? Every little bit counts, because it’s one less thing that you have to do. You can also put it down as a huge parenting win; that you have helped them gain another skill that will serve them later in life - Go You!!
Many Blessings
