Principal’s Report
Have you seen the quality writing in our foyer from Year 5B? The class have worked very hard during the writing process to engage the reader. I was certainly impressed with the focus on audience, cohesion and the language features used during this learning task. Keep using the techniques of effective writers team!
We have had several concerned community members contact the school in regard to student wearing helmets as they ride or scoot to school. Please follow our Snug CARES value of safety and wear your helmet to and from school.
Two other CARES values we have been focussing on recently are Respect and Acceptance. Our whole school knows that following teacher direction and accepting decisions – even when we don’t agree with them – is part of living in a successful community. The majority of our students show these values very well and we will support everyone to follow them. We have invited our community police officer to come and speak with all students 3-6 about what respect looks like in our community after school.
As out weather gets hotter, please remember to use sunscreen before you come to school, wear your school coloured wide brim hat and keep your drink bottle full. Another uniform reminder is to wear black school shorts that come to at least mid-thigh. This ensures we are all sun-safe and show pride in our school.
Congratulations go to Jack Sutherland who attended the Learning Services South National Testing Awards ceremony on Monday. Jack received a top in school award and was presented with his certificate by the Minister for Education, Mr Jeremy Rockcliff. Congratulations for putting in your best effort during this assessment.

Kath’s Spot
During the week I was fortunate to attend the Huon Channel Athletics carnival event in Huonville where 45 of our students participated and represented our school.
For the second year running I helped to coordinate the shot put site, which is situated right at the end of the oval, on the bend. It is a fantastic spot, in that I see every runner heading around the track, and it’s the part of the track where there are generally no spectators, and so I make a point to yell out encouraging comments along the way of their race. Afterwards, our runners always tell me they could hear me on the bend and a huge smile lights up across their face.
But it’s not just our students that I will yell out to along their race. A number of students had stopped running altogether, and were walking around the track, considerably puffed out and I would encourage them “you’re doing a great job, keep going it’s not that much further, I wonder if you can start a little jog for me, just get a nice steady pace”. Each of these runners started running again, and ran till the end of their race.
Running a race is hard work; there is so much happening both in your body and your mind. I remember as a kid being one of the tallest in my class, and sprints were quite easy. But long distance was an absolute killer!! I remember feeling like I couldn’t get a big enough breath, and my Mum used to say “you’re fine, just put your arms above your head”. When I became a parent, the doctor soon identified that I had had asthma all my life, then it all made sense.
When you are running, not only do you feel every movement in your body and every breath, your head is racing with all different thoughts as well. Sometimes it’s positive “you’ve got this!” and other times it’s not so helpful “you’re coming last, you are so bad at this!”. We talk with our students about having a positive mindset, and how to able to encourage themselves and others along the way.
Parenting is a bit the same hey. How often do you think “I’ve got this” I wonder? How could you encourage yourself in this parenting journey? Do you need to give yourself a little pep talk? Or is there someone else that you can see, that you can help to get back in the race? Have a think, what can I do today to change the way I am thinking, to see the positives amongst it all? Do you need to sit down with a cuppa and think, or say out loud “you know what I’ve been thrown a few curve balls, but I am doing a great job, I can do this”? Or is there another strategy that will work for you. Let me know, and if you need some help, like we all do sometimes...just yell out.
Many Blessings
