Principal’s Report

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to what we know will be a productive 2023 school year. Thank you to all staff who have worked hard to set up classes, prepare rooms and the grounds space to ensure our school is ready for learning. We have noticed a definite buzz at school as we are returning invigorated with the warm weather and excited to be getting to know the new staff.

Welcome to our school

  • Jorja Jaggard on 1/2B who is replacing Louise Legro while she is on sick leave
  • Chris Tollner on 3A
  • Liz Griffiths, sharing the year 4B class with Hayden Lodge
  • Kate McWhirter and Linda Jolleys who are sharing 5/6B
  • Gina Rose and Jeremy Marcotte sharing Music
  • Hayley McClure who is our new Aboriginal Education Worker
  • Olivia Brennan, an intern placed in 5/6A and
  • Jacqui Proud who is on placement for three weeks with 1/2D.

We know they will feel welcome to our school community and they are looking forward to meeting you all.

What a fabulous first week of Term 1 2023!

Our Meet the teacher evening is on Thursday 2nd March from 4.00pm – 6.30pm. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s new class teacher and become familiar with the class expectations and routines and learn how you can support your child throughout the year. Please lock this in your calendar as it is an important evening that’s purpose is to build home/school connections. More information regarding this evening will come home soon.

The Education Department is again having a focus on attendance this year – “Anything Can Happen”. This is an area for identified improvement for Snug Primary School. Last year our attendance sat just below like schools and we are looking to improve this to again be above. If you are thinking about planning a holiday we would strongly recommend that you do this, where possible, in the holiday periods.

Below is the Garden Timetable for February, all garden classes start at 2.00pm. We would love to have some parent volunteers particularly for the garden. This year the garden lessons will be a little different as each class will be responsible for 2 garden beds. This will allow classes to plan the produce that will be planted and learn more about companion and seasonal planting. These lessons always are more effective with adult assistance.

A reminder that volunteers will need a Registration to Work with Vulnerable People. Details are here if you need to apply:

Harmony Day is held annually on 21st March in Australia and is a day to celebrate cultural diversity, bringing together Australians from all different backgrounds. This year we will celebrate this day on Friday 17th March to include year 6 students who will be on camp on the actual date. On this day students will be participating in activities and there be a special assembly at 10am. Students and parents are invited to wear orange or traditional dress from their culture.

Please ensure that you communicate with teachers any concerns or questions that arise and I look forward to catching up with you as the year progresses.

Kind Regards,

Loretta Woolley
Principal

Kath’s Spot

Welcome back to all of you for another exciting year!  It was so lovely to be out there on Day 1 on bus duty and see so many excited smiley faces and happy parents too!!  I even heard a few saying they were going off to celebrate school going back!  What a blessing school is hey!

For those that don't know me, my name is Kath and I am the Chaplain in our school. I work every Tuesday and Wednesday, and I help to support our students, staff and community in whatever way that is.  I had a great day on Wednesday getting around most of the classes and introducing myself to those who didn't already know me, and touching base with those who already did!  Next week, I'll work hard to make it all the way around the whole school.  I often catch up with students when things can be a bit challenging, and I sometimes meet with parents and family in similar situations.  I help to provide food hampers and Christmas hampers and seek out support and other networks as needed as well. So, if you are ever in need of support, or are not sure of what support you need but could do with a natter and someone just to lay it all out with, I'm here for you!

You'll often see me in the mornings at bus duty out the front, and I often randomly pop up at our community events and, after about 12 years at Snug Primary, I'm kind of just part of the furniture now I think.  We always say "it takes a village to raise a child" and I believe it truly does.  After having four boys, my baby now being 13 and in Year 8, I have appreciated every person who has come across my path and has helped me out with this parenting gig. Let's continue to look out for each other, especially at the start of the year, as every one settles in to a new routine and a new normal. It can sometimes be hard to juggle the new adjustments, so let's choose to be kind to each other and lend a hand where we can, embracing our Snug CARES values of Community, Acceptance, Respect, Excellence, Safety.

Many Blessings

Kath Dolliver
