Principal’s Report

Dear parents and caregivers

Despite the fact the cold has arrived, our school remains as warm and inclusive as it always does. There’s plenty going on to be proud of.

Year 5/6 Daily PE – I just wanted to commend our 5/6 students, and their teachers, on our excellent daily PE program. Our 5/6 leaders do a brilliant job of running fun, engaging sessions across the school, developing their own leadership at the same time. They are well prepared, respectful of their younger peers, and are a real bridge across our school.

SRC: Our Student representative council has been meeting regularly, and are looking for ways to improve our school, including reaching into the community for more equipment for our loose parts playground, establishing new lunchtime clubs, and are in the process of developing fundraising ideas to fund projects they are interested in. More to come.

Attendance: Thanks to all those parents who touched base with me around about their child’s attendance. We appreciate your transparency in managing sometimes complex challenges. If you do have issues with your child coming to school, please always reach out, and we will do what we can to support you and your child being at Snug Primary.

Parent Teacher interviews/Reports: A reminder that we have parent teacher interviews in Week 10. Due to changes in reporting, including that there are no written comments, it is really important to spend some time with your child(s) teachers at these interviews so they provide you with information about the progress your child has made in English, Maths and Science, and discuss their progress against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. If you have not booked in a time, please do so. If the times available do not work for you, please send a message to the classroom teacher on Seesaw, or speak to them directly, to arrange an alternative.

Key dates:

June 23 – Reports sent home.
June 26 – 30 - Parent teacher interviews

Have a lovely weekend.

Understanding Anxiety – free information session for parents

We would like to invite all our Snug families to this fantastic free event hosted by our School Association. It is next Thursday, 15 June, at 6.00pm in the gym.

Lisa is an expert in her field and will provide you with some effective strategies to assist your child.

Kath’s Spot

Have you ever played a musical instrument? When I was growing up, when you got to Year 7 you got to chose an instrument from the band to play and I chose the clarinet. The first night I took it home I couldn’t even hardly the blow the thing, let alone make it sound wonderful or angelic. But over time I put a lot of hard work, time and effort practicing to try to better than I had been better than I had been before and eventually it paid off.

First I set a goal to just learn small scales, then easier songs, and then soon, I was playing in the senior concert bands and really enjoying it!!

Sometimes we have to keep on trying and putting effort in, in order to better than we were before. Just as an Olympic runner would attempt to beat their PB from the time before.

Our students have been learning this habit in class and outside of class; to improve excellence, we do have to try and put effort in, to be better than we were before. Whether that be with spelling, reading or maths work, or even riding our bike outside. It all takes effort that we must put in, in order to improve.

Let’s help our children to want to strive to be better, to want to improve how they are going in life. We all want to be growing and learning, let’s help each other to do this.

Many Blessings

Class in Focus – 4B (Mrs Griffiths and Mr Lodge)

In 4B Griffiths/Lodge, we have been learning about the roles and responsibilities of local, state and federal governments. We have launched local government mini-projects which are due to be presented creatively in week 10. We're discovering some really useful information about various loval government agencies throughout Tasmania and it’s a great opportunity for contextualised learning :)

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of Mr. Daryl Quilliam (former mayor of Circular Head) joining the class via video link to share his insight to help with the local government HASS projects. We thank him very much for his time.
