Principal’s Report
Hi Snug Families, Staff and Community,
With first term drawing to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for contributing to a wonderful start to the year. Snug is, and has always been, a community school, and we thrive when we reach into the community, and when the community meets us here. Thanks to our volunteers, and all of you who have reached out to support us to get our year off to a flying start.
READING
I know this is something I have mentioned a few times in my newsletters, but I again wanted to reiterate the critical importance of establishing a consistent reading regime at home to support the work we do at school. It is essential you find time to read with your child often until they can confidently and willingly read on their own. Reading is a cornerstone skill, that sits at the heart of their education.
NAPLAN
All of our students finished their NAPLAN testing this week. The test, which is given nationally, will provide a snapshot of how we are tracking, and help highlight area where we need to focus.
YEAR 6 CAMP
Last week, students completed their Year 6 Camp, a brilliant three days. We should all be very proud of this group of young people, as they lived the Snug CARES values, and stretched and challenged themselves. It was wonderful to be a part of it.
EASTER BREAK
Just to confirm our Easter break dates – the students’ last day is Wednesday 5 April and they will come back to school for Term 2 on Wednesday 26 April.

Kath’s Spot
Years ago I used to run the Kingborough Council’s Youth Work, and part of this role was to run a youth centre. Kilati Café, was filled with great activities for young people to spend their afternoons participating in, including a pool table, air hockey, basketball, connect 4, a Playstation, and even an original electronic tabletop of space invaders that was always a big hit. We would make really cheap milkshakes, 2-minute noodles and cheese toasties, and the youth loved coming handing out, building relationships with all of the youth workers and spending time with friends. They felt safe.
If you have ever worked with young people before, you know that they are wonderful people. Vibrant, full of energy and character, and also caring and would always have your back. If they had the opportunity though, they could be a tad messy, sound familiar? We knew though if we started every shift every day with the café spick and span, clean with everything in order, we knew that the youth were more than capable of keeping everything in order, and they would respect the Café and treat it as their own.
This week our students have been working on showing respect, with the habit of displaying gratitude for our amazing school by keeping our classrooms and grounds tidy and clean. It’s the same as all those years ago, we are trying to find a way of encouraging our students to respect our school by keeping it clean. The more they keep it clean, the prouder they will be of it, and the more they will be encouraged to keep it clean. Please help us by encouraging your little people to look out for our amazing school and keeping it tidy and clean. We will all benefit from this, as will all those in the future.
Many Blessings
