Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families, and Community,
Well 2022 has started off fantastically, and we have been so grateful to everyone for supporting the school in these first five weeks as we manage the opening up of schools in our new covid environment. We’ve really appreciated everyone being mindful of social distancing, wearing masks, and moving on and off the school quickly to help keep everyone safe.
Most importantly, our students have hit their straps straight away, and have settled in to their new classrooms, with their new teachers. We know the year ahead will be an amazing one.
New teachers
Welcome to the new staff who have joined our school this year. Rob Dyball, who has recently finished his teacher training, is teaching Prep two days a week, and music one day. Ruth Goodman, an experienced teacher who was working at Newtown, is teaching 4-5A three days a week, sharing with Mr Lodge. Zoe Sharman, who also works at Newtown, is now teaching Italian, and has already settled in wonderfully.
Changes to normal term one events
You may have seen on facebook that there have been a number of changes to traditional term one events in response to Department of Education directives to support the health of students and families as our number one priority. Our swimming carnival will not take place this year, but we do plan another school swimming day later in the year as restrictions ease. Our Year 6 Camp has also been postponed until September. And our Eat Meet and Greet evening that typically takes place in Term 1 will not take place this year. We will look to have a community event when we are able to. Additionally, no school assemblies for at least the first five weeks.
Covid and RAT Tests
Obviously now more than ever, we ask you to be really mindful of your childrens’ health. If they are showing any cold or flu like symptoms, please give them a RAT test, which should have been collected or sent home in the first week. If you have used up your tests, please contact our school office. Please continue to keep any child at home if they have cold or flu like symptoms, even if the RAT tests is negative. If positive, or anyone in your household has Covid, please contact the school, and public health.
Hopefully, this disruption is a short-lived one, and we can return to a more typical program asap.
A safe return to school
Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs)
Kind Regards,

Kath’s Spot
Welcome to 2022! It has been wonderful to see the excitement and glee as students have been dropped off for school of a morning, and have headed off to class to meet friends and connect with their teacher. And what a fantastic start we have had, with rich learning already beginning in classes and new friendships forming along the way.
I’m Kath Dolliver, for all of you who don’t know me, and I’m fortunate to be the Snug Primary Chaplain here at our school. I am here this year every Tuesday and Wednesday on site, so feel free to pop in to the office and ask after me if you haven’t seen me around, or on bus duty, and you would like to chat. I often catch up and support families and students both during crisis moments but also in moments that are just a bit challenging or difficult in some way. I can help support with food hampers or put you in touch with networks or support structures that you may need. I often talk with people about how life ebbs and flows and so sometimes we need support in some points in our life, and at other points we are the ones supporting others. Isn’t that wonderful?
Our habit of the mind this week is about looking for ways to be kind to others. Especially at the start of the year, it’s a great way to look out for new families, and encourage existing families by being kind to those you see and those you pass along your walk. Although I’m always wearing a mask now, please know when I’m passing by, I am still smiling at you and trying to say ‘good morning’ or the like. What other ways I wonder can we be kind to others? Maybe drop off some things for those that may be stuck at home, or weed the garden for a neighbour who can no longer bend down as easy anymore. Let’s open our eyes to see the opportunities - they are endless.
Many Blessings
Kath Dolliver
Chaplain
Welcome Back to Snug!

Swimming Carnival - CANCELLED
Unfortunately the Snug Primary Swimming Carnival scheduled for 22 February at the Huonville Pool has been cancelled. The Huon Channel Interschool event has also been cancelled. We will aim to have a water fun day later in the year. Thanks, Mr Wishart.
Kitchen-Garden News
The garden especially is always looking for volunteers. Please contact your child’s teacher and/or the office if you’d like to come and help!
School Crossing
Please meet Simon, our crossing guard.
Now that school has resumed, please be mindful of adhering to speed limits through school zones taking particularly care at school crossings.
Little Sprouts (and Little Movers!)
Hello Little Sprouts families,
Welcome to a new year of learning together and the excitement of some new beginnings with our “Little Movers” program!
In alignment with the Department of Education’s Return to School Plan unfortunately Launching into Learning (LIL) sessions at school are on hold for the first five weeks of term 1. This will help to limit the number of people on site. We are very much looking forward to when we can gather again at school.
The Department of Education will also be providing a range of resources you can use for your child’s learning at home. These resources are available on the Great Start page below and support your child’s development at different ages and stages. On this site you will also find tips for connecting, with extra support for you and your child if you need it. In addition to the resources available on the website 20 minute online LIL sessions will be released weekly via the Great Start website. We will share these on our page as they become available.

At this stage, we are hoping to be offering our first Launching into Learning sessions in week 6.
