Principal’s Report

Hi Friends and Families,

Hard to believe, but the end of another year is approaching. It’s been another one out the bag – I think it is sometimes easy to forget just how disruptive term 2 and 3 were with illness – but we have come out the other side in fantastic shape – although certainly all looking forward to our summer breaks!

Reports

Reports will go home with students at the end of next week. As per the recently introduced Department of Education, Children and Young people guidelines, students will be assessed against a nine-point scale for core subjects, and there will be no written comments.

Your child will also find out who their teacher for next year will be on this day. Our teachers spend a significant amount of time working through these lists, trying to balance a whole range of concerns – it is certainly not something we take lightly!

Farewell Assembly

Another important date in our calendar is our Farewell Assembly for the staff that will be moving on in 2023, on Dec 14. This will start at 9.15am in the gym, and is a chance to thank those who have made significant contributions at Snug.

Staff Leaving

I just wanted to say a huge thank you, and acknowledge the work, of our staff who will no longer be with us in 2023. They have made an amazing contribution to our school, and I want to wish them all the best for their next endeavours. Pam Kirkland, Bernadette Brinkhoff, Tenille Ashlin, Ruth Goodman and Leanne Boulter are all leaving us this year. We will recognise their contribution at a our farewell assembly next Wednesday, 14 Dec, at 9.15am in the gym.

Graduation Evening, Big Day Out

Next Thursday, December 15, is our Year 6 Graduation and Leavers assembly. This is a chance to celebrate the contribution of our current Year 6’s, and to wish them well as they begin the next stage of their lives at high school. We look forward to seeing our Year 6 guests on the night.

On Dec 20, the Year 6s get to enjoy their Big Day Out – a last chance to spend time together as a group.

Huon Pool, Years 2-6

Our year 2-6 students will have a last fun activity in the final week with a visit to the Huon Pool on Dec 19.

Students Last Day

Dec 21 is the students last day, with a final assembly at 9.30am.

Long Service Leave

I also wanted to let the community know I will be away on Long Service Leave from the end of next week, until March 2023. During my absence, Loretta Woolley will be the acting Principal, Ange Andrews, the acting assistant principal. As I may not get to wish you all well prior to my departure, I wanted to thank you all for your ongoing support of our amazing school, and wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday season with your families. I look forward to catching up with you all in the new year.

Kind Regards,

Blair Curtis
Principal

Kath’s Spot

How do you like to be spoken to when someone speaks to you? If someone is abrupt with you, does it make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and set you up ready to take on the world? Or does it leave you wanting to retreat, or perhaps even a little bit defensive and not in a good mood yourself?

I know myself if I go to a shop and the sales assistant is super helpful, or cheery towards me, it leaves me feeling uplifted, and I want to walk away ready to treat others in the same manner, with kindness and joy.

This week our students have been practicing the habit of the mind: We speak to all members of our school community with care and respect. I guess different times of the day can make it easier than others too, maybe mornings might be more of a struggle for you, but if you know that already you can combat that but putting steps in place to increase your awareness and the ability to show care and respect. Perhaps having your morning coffee helps to put you in a good mood, or going for a walk before the chore of lunchboxes all begins.

Whatever it is, find ways that help you to form positive habits to create kindness in the language that you use towards others. Because our little people are listening on, and can be our biggest broken records - hehe. It's all one step at a time, and if you slip up, it's all good, start a fresh again tomorrow- fortunately it's a new day!

Many Blessings
