Principal’s Report

Hi Friends and Families,

The end of year is fast approaching, and it’s busy! Good busy, though, with plenty happening between now and the end of the year.

Snug Jingles

Preparations are well underway for our annual Snug Jingles on December 4. Be sure to pop the date in our calendar. There is a Free Dress Day for students on Monday to support Snug Jingles – to participate, students just need to bring in a non-perishable food item, which will then be raffled off in Christmas Hampers on the day.

Orientation Day

Our Year 6’s have their orientation days happening now. They are heading off to Kingston and Woodbridge this week to help them prepare for a new start in 2023.

Lower Primary Concerts

For families of students in Prep-2, there will be short end of year performances, arranged by each class. Keep an eye out on Seesaw for the exact dates for your child’s class.

End of year excursions

Many classes are also rounding off the year with excursions. If your child is heading on one, please ensure they’ve had plenty of sunscreen applied, come with a hat, water and jacket (depending on the weather).

Staff farewell assembly

We will say good bye to a few teachers who will be moving on Dec 14 at 9.15am.

Stay home if sick

Please note there have been some ‘more than usual’ cases of impetigo (school sores), chickenpox, covid and gastro throughout the school recently. Please be extra vigilant with your child’s health and ensure to keep them home if they are displaying any cold/flu symptoms. More information can be found here:

Kind regards

Kath’s Spot

Some may know that over the years I have spent hours carrying out facilitation on Fusion Forest Glens High and Low Ropes Courses in Kingston. They are set in a majestic property with trees all around, a flying fox running across a dam, and with wildlife and nature at its best. While the High Ropes Course helps to extend individuals, and encourages them to take risks and step past the point in which they would usually, the Low Ropes Course is all about teamwork.

On the Low Ropes Course, groups have to work as a community to help each other to complete each of the tasks, and in most cases the task is not complete until all members have made it to the other side. They may need to pool together their ideas and come up with a plan to swing all of their team across on the low rope to get to the platform on the other side, or to use planks to position themselves so they can get from one end to the other. But an individual will not succeed without his or her team being with them.

In reality, we all need each other in life don’t we? We can complete certain tasks by ourselves, but we all know we are better together as a team. I recently said to a parent “this Parenting Gig is hard, that’s why we need the whole community to help raise them!”.

Our students have been learning about the value of Community: We work as a team, because we know we are better together! I have been so fortunate over the years to have my husband, good mates, and family to throw around ideas with, especially when things have been a bit rough or confusing with each of the boys and I haven’t known what to do next. Find your community that can help to support you when you need it most, and always feel like you can yell out! We are all here to support!

Many Blessings

Snug Jingles

Preparations are well underway for the school’s annual Snug Jingles, which will take place on Sunday, December 4, from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. This includes our Christmas Market. If you wish to set up a stall, please book in with the office. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you there for an afternoon and evening of music and fun.

NAPLAN 2023

Students will be sitting NAPLAN between 15 and 27 March 2023.

The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.

This is the first year NAPLAN will be held in March, having previously taken place in May. This change was made so school systems would have access to results earlier in the school year, so they can be used to inform teaching and learning plans for the remainder of the year.

Why NAPLAN is conducted online

NAPLAN online provides a better assessment and more precise results.

One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it uses tailored (or adaptive) testing. This means that students receive questions better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do.

Online testing also allows us to provide a wide range of accessibility options to support students with disability to access NAPLAN.

Feedback from students is that they find the online test more engaging.

Please note that students in Year 3 complete the Writing Test on paper.
