Principal’s Report
Hi Friends and Families,
I hope everyone is managing to enjoy the spring, as wet as it is! It has certainly led to a large number of inside recess and lunch times for students escaping the drenching rain. Let’s hope for a little sunshine in coming weeks.
As usual, term 4 is shaping up as an extremely busy term. In the next few weeks, students will be undertaking PAT (Progressive Achievement Testing), a national standardised testing tool which assesses students in Reading and Maths, to tell us more about the progress they have made in the last year, and what we need to do to support them in 2023.
We are also planning for all of our end of year activities, including our year 6 graduation, end of year activities, which include swimming, a water activity afternoon, some beach visits and our “meet the teacher” for new classes. Our junior school classes are also preparing for their end of year performances for friends and families.
As our year 6 students are now in their last term, they are beginning their transition to high schools, with orientation days scheduled throughout the term.
Our Remembrance Day assembly is on Friday 11 November, and community members are welcome to be part of the assembly. More details will be shared on facebook soon.
Keep your family safe online
Being online allows your family to learn, socialise and have fun. But it can be challenging to ensure you are all safe.
This Cyber Security Awareness Month (October), learn how to improve your digital awareness, identify scams and protect your family when online.
The Cybermarvel website is full of useful resources for parents and carers, including:
- free webinars on digital technologies and mental health
- videos on how to keep your child safe online
- podcast episodes on talking with your child about online safety
- device management tips
- plus plenty more!
Making every school day count
Welcome back to the last term of the school year! We’re excited for what’s in store, including <please include localised messaging here – highlights of school activities planned>.
This final stretch of the school year can sometimes be challenging to get your kids to school. But being at school is the best place for our kids, and it’s important we make every school day count.
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
Here are some tips to help:
- Create a routine.
- Give yourself enough time in the morning.
- Be on time, every day. Monday to Friday.
- Schedule appointments and trips outside of school hours.
- Get a good night’s sleep.
- Set some technology boundaries.
If your child is well enough to attend school, they should be at school. Every day, Monday to Friday.
Data tells us that the better a child’s attendance rate, the better off they’ll be. Their future will be filled with more opportunities…. which is what every parent and carer wants for their child.
School is where they learn and grow alongside their friends, and where they benefit the most. Going to school not only promotes academic success, but also helps build important social skills, relationships and confidence.
Again, please talk to us about your situation if you’re having trouble getting your child to school every day.
Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis

Kath’s Spot
Growing up in a large family, and being the baby of six children, we were always taught to respect each other and our belongings. Not only because it is a sign of respect to each other, but also because there wasn’t a lot of money to go around 8 people in the family, so if you lost your swimmers for example, there wasn’t going to be spare money to go out buy you a new pair.
As my four boys came along we have tried to teach them the same value of respect. Not only is it important that you0 look out for each other, but especially with them all playing so many sports the equipment can be very expensive! Jay, who is now 15, was taught from a young age not to wear his futsal boots anywhere other than in the stadium, so they don’t get little rocks caught in the bottom, and wear down quicker. And this keeps them like brand new. He took charge of putting them in a special bag, and respected them immensely, and even after three years playing state futsal for Tasmania, representing us on the mainland, and even being invited to play for Australia in Spain and Greece, he still takes off his boots at the end of a game and puts them in his bag, and won’t walk on any other surface than the playing surface. He respects his gear, and as a result, we haven’t had to replace gear, other than when his feet won’t stop growing!!!
At Snug Primary we also ask that we all choose to respect our gear, and take pride in the surroundings. I truly want to see it looking at its best, and I hope you do too. Please help us, to help others, to learn the skill of caring and respecting our property here at school. This has been our Habit of the Mind this week, and the students have been doing well at putting it into practice. If you are here on grounds outside of school hours, please also help us to do the same. I see many on the weekends being respectful and it brings so much joy - let’s keep up the great work!!
Many Blessings
