Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community Members
There’s plenty going on at Snug Primary at the moment – so amazing to see so many of our students excelling!
Sports Colours Day
To celebrate the footy grand final, we are going to have a Sports Colours Day next Friday, 23 September. For a gold coin donation, students can wear the strip of their favourite footy team, or any other sports team. The gold coin will mean they also get a sausage and bread at lunchtime. (You should still pack some other lunch if one sausage is not enough!)
No School next Thursday
Due to the announcement of a public holiday to mark the passing of the Queen, there will be no school next Thursday, 22 September.
Chess Club
Snug Primary School students in the chess club did extremely well last week, placing third in their very first tournament. The chess club is proving to be super successful, with a significant number of students signing up to be part of it. Go Snug!
MAST Boat Safety
We had a representative from the community at Snug this week talking to students about boat safety. With water being such a central feature of our community, learning how to be safe on the water is so important for all of us.
Brixhibition
We ran our schools “Brixhibition” Lego competition last week, with entries from students from Prep to 6. A range of creative and exciting designs were created, with winners of each category going in to the running for our overall winner, who will attend the Hobart competition in October. The winner will be announced at assembly on Friday.
Margate/Snug Sports
It was a close contest between Snug and Margate in a 5/6 winter sports competition at Snug this week. Students from both schools were respectful, they all played hard but fairly and, above all, had a lot of fun doing it. In the end it was an even affair. Snug took the honours in the footy and basketball, while Margate came out on top in the indoor soccer and netball. The handball players enjoyed a chat and a fun competition. It was such a success, a visit by Snug to Margate has been locked in for Term 4.
Parent teacher interviews
If you haven’t done so already, please book a time for parent teacher interviews next week. It’s a great opportunity to have a chat with your child’s teacher about their progress, and their “where to next”.
NAPLAN Results
For parents of Year 3 and 5 students, the NAPLAN results arrived yesterday and will be sent home in an envelope this afternoon.
Parent Survey
Every year the Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Snug Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school planning and decision-making.
The survey is open until Friday 23 September 2022 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Take the online survey by clicking this link or pasting it in your browser:

New changes to COVID-19 isolation
Public Health has recently changed the mandatory COVID-19 isolation period from seven days to five days.
This means COVID-19 cases can leave isolation, provided they:
- are no longer displaying symptoms on Day 5 of their isolation period, and
- have had no fever for 24 hours prior to Day 5.
People that leave isolation on or after Day 5 must wear a face mask in all settings for Days 5, 6 and 7 – even if they are not displaying symptoms. People are strongly recommended to wear a face mask indoors on Days 8, 9 and 10.
Students under the age of 12 and all primary school students are not required to wear face masks when leaving isolation.
To read more about this change, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website.
For any COVID-19 enquiries, please contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.

Kath’s Spot
I am not sure if you have cottoned on to it yet, but there is a new series on TV called ‘Old People’s Homes for Teenagers’. It’s a lead on series from the very popular “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds’. It is half way through the season so far, three episodes in, and has successfully seen me cry every week, after being thoroughly engaged by the relationships built between these two groups in society that are often given a bit of a bad wrap, or not much time of day.
Not to let the cat out of the bag, but we have seen teenagers, who would usually spend all day in a room by themselves, thoroughly engaged in conversation, and now laughing and even public speaking, and older people who would usually be alone in their home with no interaction with anyone be hugged by a teenager and told “we missed you”.
For you, I wonder, what engages you in relationships? What keeps you wanting to leave the home in order to spend time with someone else? Is it, when you feel seen by someone else? When someone acknowledges how you are feeling, or gives you permission to feel that way? Or when someone accepts you just as you are?
As I sit and watch this series, being a fly on the wall if you will, I notice how every interaction, every effort that is made to engage someone else can make a difference in their world. Every hello, goodbye, every smile, every laugh, can change the way that someone else perceives their life to be. Never under estimate the difference you can make to someone else’s world! You are amazing and your impact is incredible on the lives around you, keep up the good work!
Many Blessings
