Principal’s Report

It’s been exciting to be moving through the classrooms, as things start to settle down after an unusual term 1.

Maths

Our teachers are well into our important teaching and learning, with our ongoing focus on formative assessment. We have completed the Early Years PAT Reading and Maths assessments, with our Snug Foundation and Year 1s doing extremely well in the Maths components. This is a great boost for our teachers, who worked hard last year learning a new model of teaching, with students at the centre.

Harmony Day

It was terrific to see a sea of orange, and some national dress, at our own harmony day dress up today. It was a great opportunity to celebrate diversity in our own school, and to use the day to talk about diversity, different countries and cultures globally.

City to Casino fun run

Snug Primary School is taking our own school group to the City to Casino fun run this year on Sunday the 15th May at 8am. Mr Wishart will be running training sessions at school during lunch time on Monday and Wednesday in weeks 1 & 2, Term 2. If you’d like your child to participate, the cost is $20 (guardians must also participate). Please touch base with Mr Wishart if you and your child is keen!

End of term

A reminder the last day for students this term is Wed, April 13. Teachers have an additional school day on the 14th.

Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis
Principal

Kath’s Spot

I remember when our kids were little and we may have been watching on as they played together, and they all looked so wonderful sharing their toys together till all of a sudden we would look up and see one of the boys raise both their hands onto the shoulders of the other and then proceed to push them over onto the ground. I would have that instant feeling of disappointment that my child had thought that it was okay to hurt their sibling in this way. And sometimes when confronting the child about the behaviour they have even had the attitude of “what?” as if “I don’t understand that there is even an issue here”. To me that meant I had even more to do that what I had originally thought. Have you ever been in this situation?

Our students have been learning the habit of the mind “Hands are for helping- we are hands off at Snug for Safety”, where they have been looking at how we use our hands to help others, and how we need to keep others safe around us, so we don’t use our hands in an unsafe manner. When you think about it, this is a great tool to use in and out of school, because if they can learn to care for others by being safe with their hands, this is a skill they will need in all different fields in the future including the work environment. In reality, we can’t just use our hands to injure or hurt someone because we think it will serve us justice in some way. The recent incident at the Oscar awards this week with Will Smith has been a great demonstration of this. Despite the fact that it is not okay for others to treat us or others with disrespect, we need to find effective ways to deal with that, which don’t involve hurting others physically with our hands. We need to seek help from others, whether for our students that’s a duty teacher, or for us if that’s a friend or a family member. Attain the help and support you need and use the words to communicate how you feel to resolve the issue you have rather than using hands to try to resolve the disagreement or the like.

Together we can help each other to be the best versions of ourselves.

Many Blessings

School Association – City to Casino Fun Run

Calling all runners, joggers and walkers!

The School Association would love to get together as many Snug families as possible to participate in the City to Casino fun run on Sunday the 15th May at 8am. We have enlisted the help of Seb Wishart (HPE Specialist Teacher) for some training sessions. These training sessions will be held during lunch time on Monday and Wednesday in weeks 1 & 2, Term 2.

The students will train to run this race: Hansen Orchards 2.7km – the cost is $20 per child. Guardians must also participate and the cost is $20 per person.

There is also a 7km run or walk and 11km (run only) if your child is wanting to run further!

* Please note that these races are held simultaneously so you can only enter one of the races

Chris and Kirsty Morgan have kindly offered to share their running expertise with us, a family training session will be held at the Snug Primary School Oval on Sunday the 1st of May (the last day of school holidays) at 2pm.

There is also a very generous prize up for grabs. The school that has the most entrants can win their school $500! So please enter the team name Snug Primary when you register so we can be in the running for this money for our school.

Team name: Snug Primary
Team captain: Natasha (Tash) Cowles

Here is the website address for full information on the race : RACT City to Casino - Fun Run & Walk | Tasmania's oldest fun run - running since 1973

Please let us know you have entered or feel welcome to email us with any queries on: snugschoolassoc@gmail.com

Mr Wishart will host an information meeting at school in week 9 (next week!) for all students who are participating or are keen to participate.

More information coming soon. Thank you for all your support in making this a fantastic event for our children and families!

School Photos

Due to the high number of absent student and staff due to Covid, our school photo days had to be postponed. They will now be held on Tuesday 2nd August for all students (excluding Kinder B) and Friday 5th August (for Kinder B students only).
