Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community,
Athletics Day
Thanks to everyone who attended this years Athletics Day. We were lucky with the weather in the end – it managed to stay dry – with some fantastic competitive races in the morning, and lots of fun in the novelty events in the afternoon.
Year 6 Plays
Our Year 6 students have been working hard on their end of year plays. Performances are next Wed, November 3 – Year 6 parents and caregivers, please don’t forget to purchase your tickets from the office.
Remembrance Day Assembly
Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be on November 11. The community is welcome, and are asked to be seated in the gym by 10.30am. The assembly is expected to take about 30 minutes.
Attendance
A reminder to parents that it is an education department requirement that the school request a doctor’s certificate for any days beyond five days that a student is sick and away from school. Attendance is one of the key pillars of ensuring students are learning at the required standard. Missed days away can have a significant impact on outcomes, so we encourage families to ensure students are always at school when possible.
Uniforms
We have noticed a bit of a creep of clothing and footwear that do not follow our school uniform guidelines this term. A reminder that students need to wear Snug jumpers, and not other hoodies or jumpers; shoes should be black or white (and not workman’s boots); socks, also black or white.
Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis
Principal
Kath’s Spot
I was recently reading an article from ‘The Holistic Psychologist’ that talked about the impact of the role of a parent. It shared that ‘The single greatest influence on our neural pathways (thought/behaviour patterns) as well as our nervous system responses are our parent figures.’
It goes on to share that parents are the ones that educates us on ‘Our relationship dynamics, how to have boundaries, core beliefs about who we are, how to regulate emotions, & how to treat ourselves.’
Even reading this I felt a little overwhelmed by responsibility, and the need to assess how I’m going out at this. Am I succeeding? What do I need to improve? And then I was reminded that yes while it is my responsibility as a parent to carry out this role, to help teach these core values to my children, I too have a support and network of people around me to help guide me, and to also help educate my children in this way. I’ve got back up. When I feel low, I can yell out for help. I can ask a teacher for some support, I can ring a neighbour for something I might need.
I encourage you to build a community around you and your children, to help not only support your child, but to support you. So that you can be at your strongest. We’ve got your back!! Your kids need you, you are their biggest influence, but let’s take it one step at a time hey.
