Principal’s Report

Hi Parents and Caregivers,

Huon Channel Cross Country

A huge congratulations to our Snug Primary School cross country team, who performed admirably at the Huon and Channel Cross Country this week.

A huge well done to Oscar N in Year 4 who won his division, and to Sofia H, who placed second in Year 6. Amazing. Well done to everyone else for their fantastic efforts too.

SRC

Our SRC have been busy doing amazing things for our school. They contributed financially to the upgrade of the bike track, and have planned a “Take It Home Tuesday” which is an initiative to reduce waste in our school by encouraging students to avoid bringing unnecessary wrappers and plastic waste to school. Students will be asked not to bring wrappers to school and to take home any waste from their lunch tins.

Trivia Night

Final preparations are being made for the school Trivia Night next Saturday. If you are keen to book a table to support the association, and our school, please do so – there are a couple of tables left!

Kind Regards,

Blair Curtis
Principal

Kath’s Spot

Well this week is National Chaplaincy Week, so I thought what better way to celebrate than to share a bit about myself.

I am fortunate to live locally, and I love seeing our community outside of work hours, whether that be on a walk or at the soccer or the like. Our baby - who is in Grade 6 this year- is the last of our four boys to attend Snug Primary School.

I love walks on the beach, lollies, and a clean house (maybe I mention a clean house because when it’s dirty and untidy, I love it when it is finally clean and I can feel at peace again). I am the baby of six kids, and I grew up in country Victoria, where the summers are stinking hot and they last for about six months of the year. Growing up, I loved to dance, my favourite subject was Maths, and I love family time. We were often not all together, so it was wonderful when we’re able to get together.

Now, family time, both with our immediate family and extended family, is very special, time is precious. I feel grateful for special memories that I can bank up in my heart to hold on close to.

I loooove where I work, and I feel fortunate to be in such a great position, where I feel valued and feel like I am able to support others especially when they need it most. Thanks for sharing with me your worlds, and please always feel that I am approachable and always here to listen and support- whatever way that looks like for you.

Many Blessings

Class In Focus – Prep B

Prep B have had the most amazing week. Our learning was “Out of this world”! On Monday, the children learned why Mrs Garlick had been moving furniture. When the class returned from PE and Drama, a rocket had arrived in Prep! After some discussion and collaboration, we decided how our rocket needed to be decorated, and 21 budding painters began their task, juggling paint pots and stepping over their classmates. By the end of the afternoon, our rocket had been transformed.

On Tuesday morning, there was great excitement as other features had been added to our space station. Now we could see a Mission Control centre, observatory and a science lab, where moon rocks were sorted and weighed. The interior of the rocket had also been fitted out. The children were excited but also very patient as details were finalised. We discussed the reason for this area, discovering a special event which was to occur on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Prep A and Prep B combined to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime with children from over Australia and around the world. It was an astronomical event, with 1,980,280 participants in 33,418 locations! At 11am, all participants watched together, listening to a story read and broadcast live. The story was called “Give Me Some Space!” containing a mix of fact, fiction and scientific procedure. The author, Phillip Bunting, introduced the story, then we saw it read by a REAL astronaut in a REAL space station! We saw the astronaut floating as she finished reading, and the book was floating in the air!

We have enjoyed playing in our rocket, counting backwards, making flight plans, writing observation notes and organising missions. We have been dressing up, learning to cooperate and be resilient, explaining our thinking and developing our language. Each child also made a small rocket from a box as we learnt about the sound ‘x’. We incorporated our recent maths learning about 3D objects, making a 3D cone from a 2D circle, and attaching it to a cylinder. We have had a wonderful few days. Paint, mess, creativity, fun!

We would like to thank our wonderful school community for their support in sourcing materials, preparing equipment and collecting our rocket box. What a wonderful team we have! There are some very envious children in the school, often seen peering through windows and doors, or even visiting for a little peek! We hope you enjoy looking at our photos and seeing our enjoyment in our learning.
