Principal’s Report

Hi Parents and Caregivers,

Acting Principal next week

Just to let you know that I will be on Long Service Leave next week. Loretta Woolley will be acting Principal in my absence.

Sunsmart

As a Sunsmart School, Snug Primary School takes its sun care advice from the Cancer Council. They recommend that hats be worn and sunscreen applied until the end of April (today!). From next week, hats won’t be required again until September.

End of school travel arrangements

Just a reminder that if the end of day travel arrangement for your child changes (e.g. they will take a bus rather than be picked up) please communicate this to the OFFICE, rather than the classroom teacher.

Healthy Food

Snug Primary School promotes an Eat Well Move Well approach to food at school. We genuinely believe that when students start the day with a healthy breakfast, and they have a healthy lunch and snacks, they are at their very best to engage with school, their peers, teachers and their learning. Where possible, please avoid sending students to school with highly processed sugary foods, and instead pack lunch boxes full of water, fruits, vegetables and grains. We’ve noticed children arriving at school with energy/soft drinks, lollies and chips purchased from the shop prior to school. Evidence suggests this does not support them with their learning.

AEDC Census

In early 2021, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin preparations for the fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).

The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-time school. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools and governments plan services and develop better policies to target support for children and families.

Some teachers have also noticed that completing the assessments made them more aware of the needs of individual children and the class as a whole and that the census results are useful in planning for transitions to Year 1 and developing class programs.

Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.

To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit the AEDC website: .

Cross country

Thanks to all of those families who came to Snug on Wednesday for our Cross Country. A stunning Autumn Day, a low pressure race format – great for students to have a personal challenge, and to have you here to enjoy the races. We love that about Snug.

Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis
Principal

Kath’s Spot

Do you have anyone in your family that is always losing their things? Whether it be their keys, wallet, or drink bottle, there is always one isn’t there, or is it you in your house?

I take a range of soccer kids in my car each week, and every trip the one child always manages to forget their hat, socks, drink bottle, bag, or even their own shoes! The options are endless really! I always have a little giggle when I look around to find something new in my back seat.

This week in class at Snug Primary we have been looking at how we take personal responsibility as part of our organisation. We are learning to organise ourselves and our things. We have been practicing having our things ready before we need them, and making sure they are kept in the right place. I wonder if there is something you can challenge your children to do this week at home with organisation? Maybe could they be in charge of making sure they have their musical instrument on the right day, or that they have their library book in their library bag ready to go.

One of my boys has always played a lot of sport, and as a result I have expected him to have all his sports gear ready each day to take to school so he can go straight from there to his sporting commitments. As a result, now he is in high school, I know he is exceptional at organising himself for each of his different subjects, and following up his responsibilities. In the end it has served him, by me having high expectations of his organisational skills, but it didn’t happen overnight - that’s for sure!!

Start with small bits, but I encourage you to give them all something small to organise each week. Perhaps have it printed on the fridge, to remind them what they will be in charge of, and praise them when they have succeeded.

Many Blessings

School Banking

Tuesday is school banking day. Please remember to write your student number on the deposit slips. Replacement Dollarmite wallets are available from the office.

School Banking Handbook

New Bankers are very welcome – for every new banker, the school receives a $5.00 commission and then 5% of every deposit made thereafter. Just head to any Commonwealth Bank with some ID for yourself and your child (a drivers licence and birth certificate, for example) and ask to open a Youthsaver Account for School Banking. You’ll be given a deposit book and Dollarmites wallet on the spot and will be able to begin banking the next business day - it’s that easy!

Rewards Program: For every deposit your child makes, they will receive a silver Dollarmite token. Once they have received 10 tokens then will then receive a gold Dollarmite token which they can redeem for an exclusive Dollarmite reward item.
