Principal’s Report
Parents and Community
It’s been a wonderfully busy fortnight at Snug Primary School, and fantastic to see important school events taking place on our school site.
Athletics Day
Thanks to all who attended our Athletics Day this week. It was fantastic to have the community back on site – albeit with some caveats – to enjoy an excellent day. We really appreciated the efforts you all made to adhere to socially distancing.
Book Day
Another roaring success, Book Day was a highlight in the past fortnight with a range of wonderful costumes and characters present on parade day.
Gym Official Opening
Our gym is being officially opening next Thursday. Nov 5, at 10.30pm. Community members will be invited to attend, but will be required to sign in, use hand sanitiser, and adhere to strict social distancing measures while on site. This will include suitable spacing in the gym.
Please see below for “Fitness Fun for Everyone” timetable and information
Diabetes Fundraiser
Thanks to all students and families who contributed to the Type 1 Diabetes fundraiser on Thursday. We raised just under $400 to support research into Type 1 Diabetes – we appreciate your support.
PAT Testing
Every year, our students undertake PAT testing, to measure their performance in Reading and Maths. This testing will take place in weeks 5, 6 and 7. This testing will enable next year’s teachers to have an up-to-date idea about where you child sits in these subjects to plan and cater for their needs early in the year.
Kind Regards,

Kath’s Spot
When you are angry, frustrated, sad or overwhelmed, what strategies do you use to get back into a state where you feel calm, happy, focused and content? Well that’s what our students have been working on this week, and gee you can understand how it might feeling challenging hey!
I know when I am in a bit of a funk, sometimes this moment passes quickly, and other times it sticks around for longer. I wonder whether that sounds familiar to you? I believe there is also a state where you may feel sad or the like, but you are able to move yourself into a place where you can be functional, where you can learn and participate, and almost put those feelings on pause. This is great, however it is important also to be able to spend time working through whatever it may be, that is causing you angst or whatever the other feelings are that arise.
This week I was fortunate to participate in the training of Mental Health First Aid, and while it was challenging, and quite heavy, I found it really helpful to work through ways in which to help others who may be in a position whether they are finding it challenging at present with their Mental Health. We all move in and out of stages, but if you find yourself feeling a certain way for more than a couple of weeks please reach out to someone. Whether it be feeling anxious or depressed, or you just don’t feel yourself, sometimes a visit to the GP can help. This can enable you to have a check up and to make a plan forward, or even sometimes just reaching out to a family or friend to chat through some next steps forward can be helpful.
Finding some strategies that work for you, that could include some self care, mindfulness, a GP visit, some medication, a support group, a walk to the beach, or a catch up with friends. Whatever works for you, be encouraged to do that, and encourage your children to find strategies that work for them to, whether that be moving positions, finding those around them that will be helpful for them, finding a quiet space, or going for a walk. We are all learners, and we all have the opportunity to keep challenging ourselves. Keep me posted on strategies that work well for you! With our new timetable of fitness starting next week, maybe that might be a strategy that works for you, or could work well. Be brave.

Athletics Carnival
Our Gym
Official Opening
Thursday 5th November 2020, 10.30am. Parents are welcome, but please come through the office first to sign in and ensure social distancing at all times.
Fitness Fun for Everyone
Next week we will be beginning our “Fitness Fun for Everyone” program, as part of our Heart Foundation Innovation Challenge Grant that we were successful in gaining. Everyone is welcome to come and attend the free sessions offered by the trained instructors. Next Week’s timetable and a brief of each session, as well as our Covid Practises are attached below.
Class in Focus – Prep B
The students in Prep B have been exploring Motion in Science. We explored how objects move. We predicted, tested and classified objects according to the way they move. We discovered that many objects slide, spin or roll. We designed puppets with moving parts and then created our puppets using cardboard, paint and collage materials. We used split pins to make the moving parts. We had so much fun being creative!

Puppets in Prep B
We also enjoyed dressing up for the Book Week Parade. We shared our books with our friends and paraded proudly in our costumes.
