Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Term 4
Term 4, traditionally a busy term, has a slightly different shape this year due to the ongoing implications of coronavirus. However, despite continued restrictions, we are doing what we can to ensure that our fantastic community remains part of many of our school’s fixtures this term.
Year 6 Graduation and Big Day Out
Our Year 6 Graduation will go ahead on Tuesday 15 December, with parents attending required to adhere to social distancing requirements. The other change is that the traditional supper will not be held after the graduation. Additionally, our Year 6 students will still be able to participate in their Big Day Out at Dodges Ferry on Wednesday 16 December, again in line with social distancing requirements, as the event is offsite.
Final Assemblies and Performances
The end-of-year assembly, where we farewell our Year 6 students, is a school only event. Each class from Kinder – Year 2 will be arranging their own performances with their families. Social distancing requirements will be factored in to the events.
Book Week
Next week is Book Week, with different activities and events happening in each classroom all week. As mentioned in a previous email, the parade will not happen in its normal format and will be a school only event this year. Dress up day is Tuesday 20 October.
Athletics Carnival
In light of recent information we have received, parents will be able to attend the Athletics Day events on Tuesday 27 October. However, there will be a number of requirements attendees will be asked to adhere to while on site to enable this to occur.
- Anyone attending the event will be required to fill in the visitor health screening form (see below). These will be available prior to the event to be filled in and brought in on the day; there will also be copies available on the day.
- Those attending will be asked to maintain strict hygiene practices, including the use of hand sanitisers upon entering the school.
- Critically, all parents/carers attending will be required to maintain 2m social distancing from others at all times while on school grounds. Please stick to this throughout your time on site. Staff members will politely be checking in with those not meeting these requirements and asking them to separate, if necessary. Please avoid bottlenecking in areas like the finishing line! There will be a designated area for parents, which will be separate from students. (We understand that parents will want to connect with their kids, but we just have to do things a little differently this year so the event can take place!)
Building community for 2020 and beyond
Knowing that it has been such an unusual year, I am really keen to hear from parents, carers and community members about how we can reset our community links heading in to 2021. We know that there is still uncertainty about our world, and we can assume things won’t be “normal”, for some time yet – so what are some things we can do, aligning our school and community together, even if we have to adhere to social distancing? I am really interested in touching base with anyone who has ideas about how, as a school, we can continue to position Snug Primary as a centre of our community. Please feel free to email me, or organise a time to meet – my door is always open.

Kath’s Spot
Do you ever look back at photos or videos and think “I remember when they were that age - how fast did that time go?” I remember when our Ben was in Year 6 and we were processing going to the stage of having a high school aged child in the family. It all seemed a little surreal, and again when he was heading off to College again came that feeling of “are we really at this point now?”
As you start to process your children heading into an older grade it is easy to worry. Worry for them, for their friendship group and for the year of learning ahead. But does worry really help? I used to say to my Mum “if you wake up in the middle of the night worrying about something, write a note with any ideas of what you can do about it. If there is nothing you can do about it, you need to let it go”... now I find myself eating my own words sometimes.
As the new year comes around, trust that the teachers have spent many nights pondering where best to place you child, they want the best for them too. Trust that your children will sort stuff out with friends, and if you are still worried, organise a play date where you can watch on and hear how your child interacts with friends. Teach great parenting wisdoms like caring for others, being truthful and respecting those around us and their belongings.
Look out for yourself and others, we need each other in this.
