Principal’s Report
Dear families,
It has been wonderful to walk through our school during the past few weeks and watch the students engaging in their writing. The school has been focusing on the teaching of functional grammar in our professional learning and it has been exciting to see students improving their writing across all areas of the school. Some wonderful examples of student writing have been shared in our staff meetings, and we are very excited about the impact our current approach is having on student results.
Book Week
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Book Week has been postponed until mid October, beginning on 17 October and ending on 23 October, with the theme ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’.
Unfortunately, due to ongoing restrictions of adults on our school grounds, we will not be running the annual parade. Students will still be able to dress up on Tuesday 20 October, but it will be a student only event. We know that this is usually a community highlight of the year, so fingers crossed we will be in a situation to reinstate it in 2021.
Parent Surveys
The Department of Education parent surveys are taking place from August 24 this year. While it is not mandated, we are still going to do the surveys, as we really welcome and value all feedback. If you can, please take the time to give us your feedback, as this will support our continued improvement into the future.
School Association
I would like to acknowledge the work of our School Association, who are continuing to meet and chart future plans to support our school, despite the constraints on what can be run on site at school this year. Rest assured, they are putting together some exciting future plans to implement when our current restrictions ease.
Thanks
Just a final thanks to you all for continuing to support our school around coming and going off site, and respecting the social distancing rules. We appreciate you making the effort to keep everyone at our school safe.
Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis
Principal
Kath’s Spot
Do you often look around the kitchen bench or the loungeroom and think “why can’t everyone clean up after themselves?”
Sometimes it can feel like the bain of my existence - asking others to come and pick up their items and put in their room - but I attribute it to training. If we do something for 21 days straight, then we can form new habits, so I’m attempting to instill some great new habits in my household of men. Admittedly they are not bad, but there is always room to improve the situation.
Our students at Snug have been learning respect for our community by making sure they clean up their own rubbish into the bin. We are showing each other and our school grounds respect as we learn this.
I know sometimes it is easier just to pick it up after your children, but that won’t serve them when they are living out of your home. So can I encourage you today, as you potter around at home, to try and help them practise respect at home by requiring them to put their own things away. It could even start with the simple act of packing their own school bag away in their room for the weekend.

Class in Focus – Year 2B
In 2B, we love writing. We have been learning about making our writing more interesting by adding or replacing words. This is what we love about writing.
Gemma - I love writing because
you can imagine things.
Billie - I like writing because there is always
something interesting you can write about and you can choose interesting
words.
William A - I love to write scary stories.
Eloise - In writing you get to write stories and
use different words and you get to make your own stories up.
Ayza - I love writing because Miss Simson gives
us something to write about and then we get to make our own stories up. We
get to use different words and we can use words from the word wall.
Ava - I love learning to have neater handwriting
for when I’m older.
Elleanor - I like using my imagination and
thinking and making new characters up.

turned into writing.

Snug Primary School Association Food Drive
Dear families,
Our School Association has been working on ways to help our School Community during the pandemic. We understand the difficulties that some families are facing in these uncertain times. Therefore we have made a decision to launch a food drive so those who are able to donate non perishable food items have an avenue to help others. The food drive will begin on Monday the 25th of August until the end of Term 3. Simply send along the food items to your child's class and it will be distributed to those in need accordingly. We thank you in advance for your support of our Term 3 food drive.
Many thanks,

Kingborough Child and Family Learning Centre
Dear parents and carers
It is an exciting time, with a new Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC) coming to Kingborough. The new CFLC will be co-located on the Kingston Primary School site but will be a regional hub of community support services for families and carers in the early years of a child’s life. Now is the time for us all to get involved and help shape the facilities and services the new CFLC will provide to our families.
You can share your ideas for the new CFLC by completing the online survey, attending the community workshop on Tuesday 25 August from 9.15am-11.15am (click here to register) , or have a conversation with the project team at mailto:getinvolved@education.tas.gov.au.
