Principal’s Report
This is the last newsletter for what has been an incredibly eventful term and I wanted to make this newsletter one of thanks because, if this term has shown us anything, it’s that we have a lot to be thankful for.
Firstly, I wanted to acknowledge the amazing students we have at Snug Primary School. As I was sitting in my office yesterday, watching a class head up to music with Mrs Kirkland, they were jumping up the painted numbers, patting their friends on the backs and laughing with each other en-route. It was a visual reminder of why we are here – to serve them to ensure they are happy, confident, social learners - equipped for the fast moving world in which they live.
Secondly, I wanted to once again acknowledge our wonderful teachers and TAs. It has been a term like no other, and our teachers and TAs have adapted, shifted, accepted, created and innovated to meet the needs of our students, the school, the department and the broader community.
Equally as central to our success as a school has been the work of our office staff and EFAs. Despite the shifting sands, our office staff have gone about their work like smiling Trojans. Even with all the disruption, they have provided our school with a strong organisational foundation and a positive and welcoming front door through which to manage the significant change. And our EFAs – our groundsman and cleaners - have been incredible. The school is looking amazing and remains a safe environment due to their ongoing efforts.
Additionally, our support staff – social worker, psychologist, child health nurse and school chaplain - have also provided an exemplary layer of support and protection for students and families in this unusual environment.
I’d also like to thank our School Association for their ongoing support of the school. We are incredibly lucky with the calibre of the members of the association, all of whom are keen to continue to bring benefit to the school and community. An example of this is their funding of our school bike track, in conjunction with our valued Student Representative Council. Thank you, School Association and SRC, for this exciting and wonderful new addition to our school grounds for all students to use and enjoy!
And lastly I’d like to thank you - our parents and caregivers - for your work and support. We know home schooling was a new experience and one in which many of you excelled. We have also valued the support you have provided us as a team at Snug Primary, from the kind words in the playground to the biscuits for morning tea.
We are indeed lucky to be part of such a special community.
Have a safe and happy holiday.
Kind Regards,
Blair Curtis

Kath’s Spot
A number of years ago our boys were all gifted lots of Nerf guns for birthdays and Christmas presents, and despite me not being a fan of guns in our house, the boys loved them and they loved spending time together with them.
However we soon realised that lots of arguments and tears were happening because of some miscommunications. We ended up having to have a big discussion as a family and making some rules around them. We ended up deciding that ‘you couldn’t fire at anyone who was unarmed’...which resolved the dilemma of people getting shot at when they were just walking down the hallway to go to the toilet or the like. And the other rule was ‘you must shoot below the shoulders’ to keep everyone safe.
Since then the boys have had wonderful fun times together, and I think our rules has avoided lots of tears along the way.
It is important to be respectful of others and have those respectful conversations with others. It allows opportunity to hear from others and for clarification to happen also.
This week our students have been focussed to this habit of talking respectfully to those around us, both other students, parents and staff. We want our students also to be encouraged to talk this way at home, so using this same language at home may help to set this up. For example, helping your family to work through some family values and finding ways to reflect them in the day to day running of your household may be helpful. Saying things like “here in our house, we talk respectfully to each other and we be kind to each other”, and saying it over and over like a broken record does help it to seep into daily living together.
Keep up all the great work you are all doing, especially in stressful times,
Many Blessing to you all
