Principal’s Report

Dear families,

As the end of the year fast approaches we are being kept very busy organising reports, class lists, excursions, celebrations and assemblies. Learning programmes will continue until the end of term with a focus on quality teaching and learning. The end of year reporting process will give parents and families an excellent insight into the exceptional amount of learning opportunities our students have been exposed to this year.

We have made a big effort as a staff to finalise class structures, teachers and class lists as early as possible to allow for adequate and successful transitions for students who may need extra support with this and also to allow for existing teachers to pass on their knowledge to new staff.

It was wonderful to see the Snug Primary School community come together last week to support our Year 2 students in their play “A Real Pirate”. There certainly is a lot of talent around at Snug Primary School. Congratulations to all involved and thank you to all teachers, family members and the wider community for the way you go “above and beyond” to support our school.

Special thanks, of course, to Mrs O’Malley who has been an absolute stalwart of Snug Primary School for a number of years. How lucky to leave such a wonderful legacy of student engagement in Drama behind her as she heads into retirement. We certainly wish her the very best for the future.

We have had communication from a concerned neighbour about parking and volume of traffic in Snug Tiers Road at the end of the school day. Just a reminder to be mindful of students crossing the road and of not encroaching too much on the road when you park. There are also a lot of parking spaces available down the side streets opposite the school and a crossing guard so that students can cross the road safely so please keep this option in mind during pick up time at the end of the day.

Sadly this is my final newsletter as Principal at Snug Primary School. I start my Long Service Leave on 9th December when I will travel to the UK to spend time with my family for what could be a white Christmas!

I have certainly enjoyed my time here in the wonderful Snug Community and thank you all for making me so welcome.

A new Principal has been appointed for 2020 . His name is Mr Blair Curtis and I am sure you will make him very welcome.

Kind Regards,

Louise Lynch
Principal

Congratulations Ella Lindsay

Ella is the recipient of the 2019 Department of Education Student Award for Snug Primary School. This award recognises and celebrates student growth, aspiration and achievement. Well done Ella!

Kath’s Spot

Our 'mental state' is something that is really important but so infrequently talked about. What is it about having a positive mental state and how do we stay in that mode?

I recently posted the following on my Facebook account - "I find it intriguing how one little issue or hiccup can affect your mental state or anxiety levels, does anyone else find this?". I was overwhelmed with comments and affirmation. It seems there are many people who feel the same way. I know for myself I can actually hold it all together, and stay calm in the moment on the outside, but there is a whole lot of anxious churning in the pit of my stomach as I juggle what is really going on for me and what I can do about it. This often affects my sleep and in turn my tiredness levels the following day.

The Sleep Foundation, in fact, found in their recent studies that "Almost 60% of people regularly experience at least one sleep symptom (like trouble falling asleep)". Does that surprise you? The study also showed the results were not necessarily affected by what the person did before bed. According to Professor Adams "this suggests that for a huge proportion of our population, the pressures of work, families, social or other lifestyle-related pressures prohibit them from getting the shut eye they need".

I find it is a hard, long journey of learning what to do about the worry that can pop up from time to time. I always think "Is there anything I can do about this issue right now?". If there is, I do it. If there isn't I need to use other strategies to calm my inner world. What are your strategies? Do you go for a walk, take your shoes off and step on the grass or along the sand of the beach? Do you meditate, pray, put on music or exercise in some way?

I encourage you all, especially as we enter this crazy, busy season, to take the time to look after yourself inside and out. If I get to the end of the day and realise dinner is the first thing I am eating, I can bet your bottom dollar I haven't had the best day, or the most productive either! Be kind to yourself, and kind to others, because you don't know what is going on for them in their lives. And, as I found out in the responses that I had on my facebook account, the tone of your voice and the words you speak or write can significantly impact on the life of another. How are you going with this? Lets help each other out because this parenting gig is a great one, but a challenging one, and we need others to have our back for us.

Many Blessings
