Principal’s Report
Dear Families,
This week we have greatly enjoyed the Year 3 Play – “Give it up for Joe”. The production was a wonderful mix of exciting circus skills, humour and important messages about how we dispose of waste and the differences we can all make. Our Year 3 students have worked hard on their presentation skills and their absolute joy in performing shone through. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the huge amount of work involved in putting the play together – class teachers, parent volunteers, senior students helping with lights, music and backstage support, office staff and facility attendants, as well as the many family members and friends who support the students by being an encouraging and grateful audience. Of course the biggest thank you goes to Lorraine O’Malley, Drama teacher extraordinaire, who works tirelessly to bring out the best of each and every student. Well done everyone!
Last week we celebrated Book Week with our annual Book Week Parade – it was a glorious sunny day and we all appreciated the huge number of family members who were able to attend and celebrate with us. We saw an amazing range of characters and it really highlighted how much our students and families value reading and support learning in this area.
The annual School Satisfaction Survey is underway - all parents are asked to complete the online survey at some time before Friday 13th September. Log in codes for the survey were sent home earlier this week. The responses to these online surveys give us important information to use in our planning for 2020 - your opinions are highly valued and support ongoing school improvement. The survey only takes a few minutes. Please contact our office if you would prefer to complete a paper copy of the survey or if you wish to use a school computer. Thank you for your support with this.
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to take part in the annual Winter Sports Carnival on 27th August –

We wish these students a great day of competition with team mates from other schools.
An important safety reminder – we urge parents and children to use our school crossing to cross the Channel Highway. Quite regularly we see adults and children running across the highway close to our Admin building. This is very dangerous. This week an older student from another school was hit by a car when crossing the highway (not at the marked crossing). Fortunately the student sustained only an injured wrist but the outcome could have been much worse. Please remind your children to cross safely at the crossing and role model this for them.
To finish this week, Winter is drawing to a close (with hopefully a final blast this week!) and hat wearing time is almost upon us. In line with the Snug Primary School Sun Smart Policy, which follows Cancer Council recommendations, students are required to wear hats for outside activities at school from the beginning of September until the end of April. This is a slight change from last year, when hat wearing commenced at the beginning of Term 4. Students will be required to wear their school hats from Monday 2nd September – students without hats will be required to play under our covered verandah areas. Start looking for your hats and make sure they are clearly named. Hats are available for purchase at our uniform shop.
Kind regards,
Ms Susan Jeffery

Expectations. I know I’ve written about them before, but they seem to come from everywhere don’t they! We have expectations of others, and from ourselves. And we also carry around expectations that we believe others have for us, that might not necessarily be accurate at all.
With all these expectations what are we to do with them all? If you imagined them as speech bubble over our heads, if we were to walk around, imagine how we would all have so many expectations floating above us all, you can understand why sometimes it feels so overwhelming hey!
I believe it is so important to believe in ourselves, and to believe in others, and to trust and believe, that others believe in us as well. Expectations are important for us to keep in check- and to be used to help us to succeed, not to hinder us, or stress us out in the process. Let’s encourage each other to reach our goals, but also let’s help each other to have a voice in the process. Life isn’t about having such high expectations for others that they can never reach them. Life is about learning and having joy in that process of learning. Let’s continue in Community to help support each other through this parenting gig, I know I need others around me, to bring their support and I’m sure you would say the same.
Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Prep B
Prep B have been enjoying many creative activities which link to their current sound focus in Jolly Phonics. When we learned about the digraph /ou/, we each made a mouse puppet from felt. After stitching the puppet body, we decorated them with eyes, ears, a nose and whiskers. Finally we added a tail on the back.
Our first experience with writing procedural text involved following instructions to make a snowman from clay. First we rolled two balls. Second, we joined them together. Our snowmen have a secret stick inside to hold the head and body together. Next, we added sticks for arms. Lastly we decorated the snowman’s face and added buttons. We made a snowman and then wrote some instructions so that other people could understand how to make one for themselves. Our snowmen are very cute and we are very proud of them.
We love stories in Prep. Last week, we all dressed up to enjoy the Book Week Parade. It was fun choosing a character and finding a costume.
Earlier this year, Prep students began sorting rubbish at school. We are recycling the soft plastic from our lunchboxes. Any wrapper that can be squished up in our hands is suitable for recycling. We have dedicated one of the compartments in our outside bin to plastics only. We are very grateful to our parents, who take our bag of plastics to Woolworths or Coles for recycling when it is full. We know we need to keep plastic out of the ocean to keep the animals safe. We have also been recycling things from home by bringing these to school to be re-used. We reuse lots of household rubbish like newspapers, boxes, wood offcuts, fabric scraps and plastic containers. Our most recent endeavour has been to introduce a bin for food scraps. This is used to create compost for the garden. We mainly use this bin after our Fruit Break. If you would like to know more about our efforts, and maybe try some out in your classroom, please ask a Prep expert. It would be wonderful if everyone at Snug Primary could participate.
We hope you enjoy our photos of the learning we have been enjoying in Prep recently.
