Principal’s Report
Dear Families,
One of our priorities at Snug Primary this year is to improve student outcomes in Writing. Classes are focussing on improving key components of effective writing including text structure, ideas, paragraphing, vocabulary, punctuation and spelling. Teachers are learning and planning together and providing students with targeted experiences and rich resources such as Bump-It-Up Walls, Graphic Organisers and Modelled Texts to support learning. Have a chat to your children about what they are learning about the craft of writing and ask them to share some of their wonderful writing samples with you.
Next week we will be celebrating the joy of reading with our annual Book Week Parade. This is a wonderful whole school event which highlights the never-ending, amazing experiences offered through children’s literature. The Children’s Book Council of Australia’s theme this year is ‘Reading is my Secret Power.’ All children are invited to dress up as a book character – we encourage simple, home-made costumes made from re-used/recycled materials. Children are also encouraged to bring along the relevant book, if possible. Our parade will take place in our top play area at 9:00am next Tuesday, 13th August. Families are invited to attend the parade and LiL families are most welcome to bring along Little Sprouts in costume.
We are also celebrating Book Week with our annual Book Fair. A great range of interesting books from Scholastic will be displayed and available for purchase in our front office area over the next two weeks.
Also coming up very soon is our Year 3 play, “Give it Go, Joe!” Our Year 3 classes are very busy rehearsing and preparing props, music and costumes. We look forward to welcoming families to two performances on Wednesday 21st August. Tickets will be for sale from next Monday and can be purchased from our office. Come along and enjoy another fabulous Snug production!

Kath’s Spot
Saroo Brierley, is very famous for his book "A Long Way Home" in which the movie "The Lion" was based off, which shared his journey of finding his way back to his biological mother in India after being adopted here in Australia. As a child he had been lost after falling asleep on a seat at a train station in India, and then after catching a train in a different direction he could not find his way back to his family.
For all those who have read the book, or watched the movie, I imagine there may have been moments of having tears streaming down your face, as you picture what life was like for Saroo in these moments.
I heard a quote from Saroo recently in which he said "Sometimes catching the wrong train, can still get you to the right station", and it made me think. Has there been moments in my life when I have got to the right station, but perhaps I got there a different way to which I had originally planned? How about for you?
There has been so many moments to which I have thought I could only get to a certain point by going this one way, only to find that there were actually multiple ways of achieving the goal. Sometimes as I parent my children, I can often lock myself into thinking that there is only one way to complete their task or the like. But you know what... if I continue to think this way, I will knock out the creativity in their world, I will not be giving them the reins, and they could possibly end up feeling deflated in the process. So what can I do in that moment when I feel like stepping in? Maybe if I press a pause button, if I stop in the moment and ask them to share with me how they intend to complete the task, and maybe if I am willing to let them fail, then maybe just maybe, they will succeed in the process. Gee this feels hard sometimes though.
How about we all put our creative hats on, like we are back in Kinder again, and be willing to catch a different train that will probably get us to the same station...or perhaps a better one than what we were expecting. Let me know how you get on, I always love hearing from you all.,
Many Blessings
