Principal’s Report
Dear Families,
Congratulations and thank you to the huge team who supported 4/5A and 4/5B in their performances of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ last week. Our productions would not be possible without the help of a magnificent band of volunteers who give up hours of their time to prepare sets, costumes, hair, make-up, music etc. Thanks also go to the class teachers, Tenille Ashlin and Peter Simsons, who dedicated much of their out-of-hours’ time to support the students. To the students themselves, you have demonstrated outstanding commitment to excellence by being your very best throughout the rehearsal process and the performances. Thank you for making us all very proud! And of course, last but by no means least, a gigantic thank you to Lorraine O’Malley, drama teacher extraordinaire, who has once again worked tirelessly to support our students in being the very best they can be. As a newcomer to the Snug Plays, I am thrilled by the community effort that exemplifies ‘Snug CARES.’
Teachers have very busy over the past few weeks writing mid-year reports. These reports provide comprehensive information about student achievements and needs in all learning areas, as well as information on social skills and work habits. Year 6 reports will be sent home next Friday 21st June, with Parent-Teacher discussions for Year 6 parents in the week beginning 24th June. Prep-Year 5 reports will be sent home on Friday 28th June, with Parent-teacher discussions in the week beginning 1st July. Information will be sent home soon on how to book online for these discussions. We encourage and welcome all parents to meet with class teachers as partners in your child’s education, to celebrate progress and to discuss challenges.
We are currently noticing increased absences from school as Winter bugs spread amongst children and adults. Please do keep your children at home if they are unwell so that they have a chance to rest and recover and to prevent further spread of bugs. If your child is absent for any reason, please make sure to contact our office on the day to explain the absence. Unexplained/unauthorised absences are recorded on the Department of Education system and we follow up excessive unexplained/unauthorised absences with phone calls, letters and contact from our Social Worker. Please contact school if you require any support at all around attendance.

Kath’s Spot
Winter is such a wonderful season. Snow lands on the mountain, and the fire gets lit, making everyone warm and cosy. I always find it opens doors to a whole stack of activities that we don't do in summer. I am a big fan of a warm beanie, and a nice hot white chocolate, along with watching soccer games and playing in the snow.
But with Winter comes a stack of other challenges with sickness. I am not such a fan of the coughs and colds, and especially seeing little people feeling miserable. One of my boys got the sore throat and fever last week, and he just slept the whole day. We were very thankful for the long weekend, and the opportunity to have a relaxing weekend. It was such a great reminder that when you don't feel at your best, the best way to get rid of that sickness is to rest and get over it. Not rocket science is it. And when they are in contagious periods it is especially important to do this.
I remember when our oldest son, who had a heart condition would hit winter, it meant he had to miss a lot of birthday parties, school and family events when winter would come around. He was particularly vulnerable to picking infections up, and if someone else had a bit of a cold, it would soon hit his chest and he would be in hospital for weeks fighting it. I know we encourage our children to share, but sharing sickness is not so helpful.
So this winter, be kind to yourself and others, and help us all to be healthy, as much as possible during this wet season. Enjoy those lovely warm wood fires, and a hot cuppa, and don't be afraid to enjoy some time outside, just rug up and stay warm.
Many Blessings
