Principal’s Report
On Wednesday this week we were privileged to welcome to our school the Governor of Tasmania, Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, Mr. Warner, the Mayor of Kingborough Dean Winter and the Deputy Mayor Jo Westwood. Our visitors toured 3 sections of our school – the Kindergarten, to see indoor/outdoor inquiry learning, the Kitchen/Garden area, where lunch provisions were being prepared by students, and the Year 6 area, where students were exploring a variety of STEM challenges. The overwhelming opinion of our guests was that Snug is an amazing school which provides students with an outstanding range of learning opportunities. Thank you to Year 6 students Keavy, Indigo and Otto for hosting our visitors in an impeccable manner. All of our Year 6’s have been invited by the Governor to visit Government House later in the year.

The Govenor of Tasmania Visits Snug
Congratulations to the students who represented the Huon and Channel region at the State Athletics Carnival last Friday in Launceston - Charlie, Harrison, Sophia, Logan, Chalahn, Oliver and Abbi. Huon and Channel took out the shield. Abbi performed particularly well, coming first in the 200m and 400m races and second in the 100m. On 29th May we will have a large team of students representing Snug Primary at the Huon and Channel Cross Country Carnival.
This week students have been completing NAPLAN testing, with most of the tests being completed online this year. Congratulations to all the students for trying their best and for managing the technical aspects with ease. NAPLAN testing is just one way we measure student achievement. Throughout the year we assess students through conversations with students, observations of learning in all areas, a range of tests and feedback between students and teachers. Students have opportunities to express their learning in many different ways. Teachers will soon be busy writing mid-year reports. These will be sent home on Friday 28th June and will be followed by Parent-Teacher discussions in the last week of term. We look forward to meeting with all parents/carers at that time.

Kath’s Spot
What do you love? Do you love to go for walks or read or play soccer? Do you bike ride, or swim or dance?
I think it is great to be able to take the time to work out what you love, what is a value for you, and what you enjoy doing. This then in turn helps you to make decisions with your time and to know whether to say 'yes or no' when questions or decisions come your way.
I heard composer and musician Tim Minchin, say recently "Define yourself by what you love, not by what you hate", and this really stood out to me. Too often we can know strongly what we don't like, but we find it harder to determine what we like. I know as my child in Year 10 is in that stage of working out where does he want to head to next, he is trying to work out 'What do I love?". Do you love what you are doing?
I feel like I have the dream job! I love it, and at home I am trying to work through each of our family members to work through what they love. If you asked your children this question, do you think they would be able to tell you? I wonder if you looked at their weekly timetable that their routine would reflect what they love?
May this week bring many opportunities not just for your children to do what they love, but for you also to take the time to do what you love!
Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Year 4-5A
In 4-5A we have been learning about lifecycles and adaptations of living things. Last term we went on an excursion to the Marine Discovery Centre where we got to explore marine wildlife, feed sharks and explore the rocks for crabs. Below are some photos from our excursion and our adaptations posters.
