Principal’s Report

What a wonderful display of team work, persistence and resilience at the Snug School Swimming Carnival yesterday. It was wonderful seeing so many students entering races and giving it their very best. I was particularly proud of the Year 6 leaders and the way they supported the younger students and offered to assist when required.

A well organised event is one that can be run effectively in the absence of the team leader. Unfortunately Mrs Heerey, our Physical Education teacher, couldn’t attend the Swimming Carnival day but what a smooth, organised event it was.

Highlights of the day were:

  • The group of year 6 boys gladly helping out holding kickboards to the wall to avoid people hitting their heads in backstroke. Thank you boys.
  • Dearne's crew of year 4 and 5 students serving and selling food
  • The largest display of students on record entering the Division One races
  • The passion and enthusiasm of House Captains for getting their teams to cheer and students to races
  • Students supporting their friends by gathering their towels in readiness for getting out of the pool

Special thanks again goes to Lyn Heerey, Lorna Barrett (our wonderful lifeguard), Graeme and Sue Cooksey and the parents who stepped in to give out ribbons and assist in so many other ways. All the students appreciate it.

We are excited to get a starting date for our new gymnasium. This will be built in the old bike rack area and building is scheduled to begin in on 29th April. Plans to set up the security fencing to secure the perimeter of the building site over the Easter term break. It will be exciting to watch this new development.

Primary Progress reports are due to go home next Friday 15th March. Please take this opportunity to make an appointment to meet with your child's class teacher if you have not had the chance to do so, particularly if a parent teacher interview is requested.

Enjoy the long weekend and particularly the last couple of weeks before Daylight Savings ends.

Kath’s Spot

On Tuesday I was having a discussion with one of my boys about taking responsibility for our actions.  I wonder when something goes wrong, are you quick to point the finger, or rather quick to look at yourself?  Even as adults sometimes it feels easier to see what others do rather than question whether our actions or responses were valid or warranted.

I was watching a show the other day, where a mother was talking to her older teenage son, in which she said “You control your actions, no matter who says or does what, you are responsible for what happens next”.

Isn’t this so true!  We are!  We are responsible for what happens next.  Others will make mistakes, or make the wrong decisions, but we can be responsible for what happens next.

I said to my son, it doesn’t matter what others were doing, I care about what you did in response, and I care if you are being truthful.

Is this a value for your family too?  Are you quick to justify your actions or your child’s, and maybe a little slower to apologise? I know I get it wrong...don’t we all... but what matters is how we continue to try to make a difference in everyday life.  It’s a slog sometimes hey, but you are doing awesome!!! Keep being awesome!!

Many Blessings
