Principal’s Report
A very warm welcome back to all our learners and especially to our new families for 2019. We have had an exceptionally smooth first 3 days. Teachers have been setting up their classes and preparing for learning. It has been wonderful to see all students revising the Snug CARES values and setting challenging learning goals for themselves.
As you are possibly aware, Bonnie Jeffrey has taken leave for terms one and two and I feel privileged to be acting on her behalf. The School Community will be informed when this position has been filled.
Our first School Association Meeting will be held on Tuesday 26th February and then on the third Tuesday of each month. Our school association supports the school priorities and assists with the governance of the school. All parents are automatically members of the association along with the parent committee members who are:
- Brendan Coad – Chair
- Chris Morgan- Vice Chair
- Lorna Barrett-Treasurer
- Ali Nichols Howe - Secretary
- Michelle Rathbone - Member
- Kirsty Morgan - Member
- Chris Morgan - Member
- Ben Andrews - Member
- Kath Dolliver - Member
- Dearne Coad - Member
Our Eat Meet and Greet BBQ will be held on Wednesday 20th February and is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and hear about the routines, expectations and learning that will occur in Term 1 and beyond. I encourage all families to come along, share a sausage and connect with our community. Prep parents are encouraged to take up the opportunity to attend the Jolly Phonics session on offer after the class routines. This informative session will allow you to work in partnership with the classroom teachers to help your child learn to read and write.
A few safety reminders for the start of our school year:
- School hats are to be worn during Terms 1 and 4.
- Student are not permitted to be onsite until 8:30am as there is no supervision until this time.
- Students are to cross the highway with Simon our crossing guard.
- Dogs are not permitted on the all Education Department school grounds.
- Parents are asked to please use the ample space on Tiers Road as parking or use the ‘kiss and drop’ turning circle.
- Our blue lines indicate the out of bounds areas. Scooters and bikes must be dismounted when reaching the line and walked to the bike rack area.
Thank you for your help keeping everyone safe. We look forward to an exciting 2019 year.

Acting Principal
Kath’s Spot
Welcome Back! Here comes 2019 ready and raring at us! As we begin this year, already so many things have happened to our community whilst we have been on holidays. Many people have travelled, camped and taken trips to the beach, and many have also been involved or know someone involved in the bushfires that have been happening in our surrounding areas. Our thoughts go out to all that have been affected, and we will continue to support those affected in whatever ways we can.
For those that don't already know me, my name is Kath Dolliver, and I am the Chaplain in Snug Primary School, and I work in our school on Wednesdays and Thursdays.. Please don't be scared by my title, I have become a part of the furniture here in our school, after working here for over the past 8 years. Ask anyone around, I am relaxed and not threatening in any way. You will often see me out the front of the school on bus duty, but my role is more than just this. I am not only a friendly face, I am also one that you, or your child can chat to about anything. I help to support families with food hampers, and food vouchers, and I can refer you to extra support needed whatever the circumstances. You will often see me chatting away to students, staff and families both inside and outside of the classroom, and I help to coordinate teams of parents and community members who volunteer for different events whether it be for costumes in the school plays, or for a fair or the like. I am part of our Launch into Learning team, and I also have the pleasure of writing a little blurb in the newsletter each fortnight, generally about how we can do this thing called 'parenting'. I am a Mum, and I have had four beautiful boys, two of which are here learning at Snug Primary.
I noticed during our holidays that 'relaxing' looks so differently for all people in our family. For me, I love to lie back on my camp chair and read a great book, while for the boys 'relaxing' might be playing a game of cricket, and for my husband it may mean taking the dingy out and having a fish with the boys. What does it look like for your tribe? Sometimes during a school term, 'spare time' can feel like it is less frequent and far between, but it is still oh so important. It's what will keep each of your family members sane amongst the schedules and routines of life, all of which are important to learning in different ways. I encourage you to find a bit of a list of ways in which you can relax, whether it be in a time slot of 2 minutes or 30 minutes, a couple of hours, or half a day that you may have spare. These ideas will also look different for each member of your household. For you, it may be using 5 minutes to sit down and drink a cup of tea and just breathe, or for another member it may be doing star jumps, or reading a chapter of their book. Whatever way it is, lets keep practising taking the time to improve our mental health along our journey. Please keep chatting about how you are travelling with others around you, and don't forget my ears are always open to come and have a chat.
Many Blessings
Kath Dolliver

AFL To Visit Snug
As part of the AFL Melbourne Community Camp, several professional players from the North Melbourne Football Club will be visiting Snug on the afternoon of Thursday 14 February. They will run a short workshop and activity session for the yEar 3-4 students. We are sure there will be some super excited students!
‘Little Sprouts’ and ‘Branching Out’
Welcome to 2019. We would like to introduce our Launching into Learning Team at Snug Primary School. This year our team members are: Jane Martyn, Linda Jolleys, Gale Pfennigwerth and Kath Dolliver with support from Loretta Woolley and Leah Willis.
We are very excited about the year ahead!
Our sessions will include:
LITTLE SPROUTS
Thursday 9:00am-10:30am with Mrs. Martyn, Gale and Kath in the Kinder Possums room. These sessions will commence on Thursday 21 February.
BABY SPROUTS
Thursday 9:00am-10:30am with Mrs. Martyn, Gale and Kath in the Kinder Possums room. For the littlest members of our community we will have a special baby space for tummy time and exploration in the Kinder Echidnas room. This will be a quiet space giving families an opportunity to play, relax and chat with their babies and other parents. These sessions will also commence on Thursday 21 February.
BRANCHING OUT
Thursday 1:45pm-2:45pm with Mrs. Jolleys and Gale. These sessions will commence on Thursday 14 March and may include music exploration, gross motor and outdoor learning. Stay tuned for updates on what is happening each week.
Starting in Term 2, Mrs. Martyn, Kath and Leah will also be providing some small group experiences and coffee and chat sessions to support families. More information will be available as the term progresses.
Please share this information with any new families in our area. We hope to meet them all soon.
We look forward to working together with you and your children.

School Banking
Wednesday is school banking day. Please remember to write your student number on the deposit slips. Replacement Dollarmite wallets are available from the office.
New Bankers
New Bankers are very welcome – for every new banker, the school receives a $5.00 commission and then 5% of every deposit made thereafter. Just head to any Commonwealth Bank with some ID for yourself and your child (a drivers licence and birth certificate, for example) and ask to open a Youthsaver Account for School Banking. You’ll be given a deposit book and Dollarmites wallet on the spot and will be able to begin banking the next business day - it’s that easy!
Rewards Program
For every deposit your child makes, they will receive a silver Dollarmite token. Once they have received 10 tokens then will then receive a gold Dollarmite token which they can redeem for an exclusive Dollarmite reward item.
Book Club
This year Book Club orders can only be submitted and paid for online via the Book Clubs Loop. Please go to this link below. It’s a very straightforward process to sign up and then super quick and easy to place orders. The Loop will be closed off on Friday 22 February so ensure you have your orders in by then. Books will arrive to school and be distributed to students a few weeks later.
