Principal’s Report
Last Friday night we saw our dedicated band students performing at the Derwent Entertainment Centre for their culminating performance with the Combined Primary School Band Program. Students performed in front of approximately 2000 people in what is always a spectacular night of entertainment.
It has been wonderful to see all our students still looking smart in full school uniform as we approach the end of the year. Our uniform identifies us as part of the Snug team and creates a sense of pride in our school. If you need additional pieces of uniform towards the end of the year (children grow so fast), please see our lovely admin team as we have a small pool of second hand items.
At this end of the year teachers have been gathering samples of writing to see how students have developed as writers during the year. We have so much to celebrate! I have had many student visits my office to tell me about their ‘hook’, their powerful vocabulary choice, their choice of dialogue versus description and other writing strategies. We are using these examples to plan for 2019 where we will continue to focus on the elements of effective writing.
Please be aware that the EFA team are working in the grounds to prepare for the gymnasium build over the holidays. Please keep an eye out for witches hats and other barriers indicating out of bounds areas. We are so excited to see the beginnings of the construction.

Hard Choices. How does your family manage big decisions or choices? I think for ours it changes according to the circumstances. Somethings it’s right for just Chris and I to make the call and let the kids know, something we have a family discussion and vote and then we get to make the last call, and other times it is a full family decision.
Recently we have had to make one of those last decisions. Our Jay has been saving for the last two years to get a dog. He has been edging for us to commit to getting one, and because of the stage of life we are in, we have been putting it off, but it seemed like the right time to at least trial ‘getting a dog’. Be believe our boys are ready for some extra responsibilities, and living with dogs really does provide those learning moments.
For the past two weeks we have been fostering a dog from the Hobart Dogs Home. After one day, Chris had had to work from home, because we soon realised our ‘Phil’ is a social butterfly and only likes to be with people, and our lovely neighbours are not so excited about a dog crying when we are out. A couple of days in we met as a family and asked everyone how do you think it was all going, how could we help Phil settle in better and what have been enjoying or not enjoying so much? We decided to review it at the end of the first week.
By the end of the first week we met again, and we all had different thoughts and ideas, and it was so lovely to hear how each family member was feeling. We decided to commit to second week, and to extend our fence, which would give him more space to run during the days. At this point I was a tad concerned, but was willing put in the effort.
Last night we sat down together again and had another family meeting. We had resolved issues with space, and walks, cleaning up, and family time- Yay! So we are off later today to seek adoption of our Phil.
Challenges can come in all different ways and directions, and I think we need each other along the way to help find ways forward together. Here at Snug Primary we are proud of our slogan ‘Working Together’ and we encourage each individual, students, staff, family and community to work together. Let’s do this!!
Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Year 5B
In 5B we have been learning about how animals adapt to their environment. Each person in our class researched about a different animal and found out about their adaptations.

Snug Jingles – Sunday 9 December
Come and Celebrate Christmas with Snug Jingles!
As 2018 quickly draws to a close, we’d like to invite everyone in our school community to get involved with Snug Jingles. This event is a festive way for the Snug Primary community to celebrate Christmas and welcome the holiday period, while reflecting on a wonderful year that was.
This year, Snug Jingles will be held on Sunday 9th December, from 4:30pm to 7:00pm. We’ll be enjoying wonderful food, drinks, and entertainment for the whole family. Please note this is NOT a BYO event – as it is a major fundraiser for our school, we would ask that you support us and purchase the food and drink (including beer and wine) on offer. Thanks!
Major prize draw!
To add to the excitement at Snug Jingles, this year a major prize raffle ticket will be drawn. We’re thrilled to announce this year’s major prize is an Ultra Medium Trampoline, generously donated by our friends at Vuly Play (with a total prize value over $749!)
This cleverly designed trampoline combines all the advanced safety features Vuly is known for. Vuly trampolines are tested for performance in high-UV and wet weather conditions, and also incorporate an enclosure that’s 40cm taller than competing models. The Ultra trampoline has been designed with family safety as a number one priority.
We also wish to acknowledge our other generous raffle donations from:
- Co-op Toyota, Kingston
- Kingston Pool and Wellness Centre
- Tahune Airwalk
- Fullers Bookshop
- Grandvewe Cheese
We would like to thank all the volunteers involved in preparation for Snug Jingles. If you are able to assist on the day please contact the front office. Our community at Snug Primary School has shared an incredible year, and consistently provided a supportive learning environment for all our students.
