Principal’s Report

Community - what does it mean to you?

As I walk around our school this morning, it is with a sense of pride that I notice the characteristic that sets our school apart from the rest. It is COMMUNITY.

Our school fair preparations are almost complete and it looks like we are primed for an incredible day tomorrow. Our students and teachers have worked together with parents to set up a stall and stock it with an amazing range of sustainable and interesting products. This fair is not possible without our parent community and I would like to acknowledge the combined efforts of Catherine Coad, Dearne Coad, Elanor Bell, Kath Dolliver and Loretta Woolley for being on the committee that began organisation back in May. We have a multitude of community stalls and businesses in support as well. Please bring along your pocket money (small change greatly appreciated), bring your blanket to sit on and bring along everyone you know to support our biggest fundraising event. A reminder that there are no dogs allowed on site and you may not BYO. I’ll see you there!

On Monday morning, staff and Brendan Coad, chair of the school association, met with Miriam from Playstreet designs to begin landscape master planning for the whole site. In harmony with our new gymnasium, our new masterplan will incorporate play areas, water play, tree planting and environment management. Once completed, the school will have a plan for the next 5-10 years and a solid outline for school fundraising efforts like our fair. We are incorporating ideas from our Year 6 students and other community members and I am excited about the initial design brief.

Kath’s Spot

Today we ran an event at Snug Primary for Mums and Grandmothers that help to care for children aged birth to four. The ladies sat back and were pampered with hand massages, haircuts, back massages, and the like while catching up and sharing their worlds with each other.

Its funny isn't it, that sometimes it takes a friend or family member to organise a catch up, in order for us to actually make the time to sit down and chat. We want each of our parents and community members to feel like they have that time to sit and relax, and to have the time to share. I know from my time working in Northern Territory that Indigenous women are great at taking that time to go bush and be together. To be able to do 'womens business', and have those tricky conversations. It's in those moments, when you finally allow the time for your soul to catch up to the craziness of your life.

Sometimes we are not so good at this, and sometimes its what we need most. I know sometimes it sounds like I am banging on about this all the time, but it is for a reason. You need to put the mask on yourself first in a plane, before we put our children's masks on, and this in fact can teach us so much. Sometimes we can have a really bad day too, but we need to remember to wake up the next morning with the attitude that it is a fresh new day, and we have new opportunities to be had.

Come tomorrow and enjoy our fair, and take even just a moment to sit and look around and share together with someone else what makes our Snug Community so special. I think here at Snug as we look around I can see, we do 'Community' pretty damn fine!

Many Blessings

Branching Out “Your Time to Blossom” Day

Today twenty two of our Snug mums came to our “Your Time to Blossom” day where they had their hair cut, hands massaged, nails coloured and the stress and strains of life massaged away. This special day could not have been possible without the kind donations of local businesses and grant funds awarded to Snug Primary through Mental Health Tasmania.

A huge thank you to all those people who donated their time so willingly.

We could never have done it without you all!

Linda Jolleys and Kath Dolliver.
