Principal’s Report
One of our Snug CARES values is Excellence, and our vision statement is “Working together to achieve personal excellence”. Yesterday at our Cross Country event I saw many examples of this. Congratulations to all students who participated. We had almost 100% student participation either running or walking with younger students. This event is a great learning opportunity for students to practice grit, persistence and acceptance. Our thanks go to Mr Max Watson for his organisation on the day, supported by our grounds and kitchen teams. I would like to also thank the parents who came and spoke to me with feedback about ribbons and lane markings. At Snug we appreciate input from our parents and have taken this on board for future planning. Please have a look at the photos of our excited participants below.

As our weather grows colder, please ensure your child has one of our polar fleece or rugby jumpers to wear. Naming clothing items ensures lost jumpers can be returned, which can help stop our lost property rack becoming crowded. Hats are not required to be worn in terms 2 and 3 and maroon school beanies can be purchased at the office.
A reminder that our Facebook page is a place to find information and celebrate success. The school and Snug School Association have agreed that any ‘cool’ feedback or suggestions for improvement be communicated in person or by email to the school or School Association email address. This means we can address feedback swiftly and personally to ensure the smooth running of our school. We have much to celebrate and our Facebook page is a great communication platform as it reaches a wide range of people from all over the world.
Our Mothers’ Day stall will be up and running in the office area next week so save your pennies to spoil those who do the mothering in your house!
Parent Working Bee at Snug
Come along on Saturday 5th May between 9am and 12pm to help us move pine bark, plant shrubs and weed our outdoor learning area. We will have a light lunch of soup and rolls at the finish of the morning’s work. Come all morning or come for 20 minutes. Bring your gloves and a hat. Bring your kids, the grandparents or neighbours and see what we can achieve for our children by working together.

Kath’s Spot
Each of our children are all different, aren't they? Two of our boys are mad soccer players, and yet our other elder child Ben will play a bit in the backyard, but is not keen on the all-encompassing nature of soccer. Instead, he would prefer to read or engross himself in a documentary about World War II or the like.
Sometimes it is a struggle to make sure each of the boys get enough time outside and we also think there is important skills learnt when working as part of a team. While I do encourage reading, and I am often found with my nose stuck in a book myself, and I do appreciate the history that is being learnt when watching documentaries, I also know our Ben is needing the social side of being involved with a team.
For some children, like it is for Ben, to look someone in the eye is a skill that is important for him to practise. And time spent in a team helps him to develop skills of negotiation, reflection and inquiry, in a way that I cannot necessarily teach him myself. Table tennis has been a welcome relief for him the last few years, as a sport that requires not as much physical ability, but still requires interactions with others, and also improves his hand eye coordination along the way.
I wonder for each of your children, what is it that helps them to interact with others? Is it bike riding, or netball? Is it rock band or footy? I encourage you to work through the hard task of finding something for each child that they can call their own. And while doing this, don’t feel compelled to find expensive things! To get a bike out and go for a ride with friends, doesn't cost money - just time. Interacting with others, especially in team circumstances is a gift that will teach your child so much more than you would expect. There is an art to taking turns and/or negotiating who goes in defence for the game.
If you need any suggestions, or networks within the local area, feel free to sing out and I can see what I can find. Here's to the art of juggling a whole family and their unique gifts and talents.
Many Blessings

“We have enjoyed some fabulous weather so far this year for gardening. We have been picking and weighing fruit, weeding garden beds, watering our plants, planting seedlings and storing the raspberry canes for later in the year.
The kitchen has also been a great bonding experience, creating and sharing food together with our amazing parent helpers has been a highlight!”
