Principal’s Report

Our school mornings are looking more active now as our whole school Daily Fitness program kicks off this week. Congratulations to our Year 6 leaders for their organisation and confidence as they lead each class through fitness activities. We are a Move Well Eat Well school and we are committed to at least 20 minutes of vigorous activity each day. Research tells us that learning these healthy routines early, leads to great health benefits over our lives.

What a brave team of swimmers we had on Tuesday at the Huon and Channel Swimming carnival held at Huonville pool. Teachers report outstanding grit and tenacity as our students faced horizontal rain on the starting blocks before they dived in to swim. What dedication! Our students once again shone as feedback reported their behaviour, manners and Snug CAREs values were highly visible. Well done all involved.

I have been so impressed by the amount of writing effort I have seen as a move about the classes recently. Students have been arriving early to write, using recess and lunch times to write and taking writing home to complete. The more time we spend writing, the more we improve. 3/4 B have some impressive examples of powerful writing in the foyer – come and have a look!

Nut Awareness at Snug

Snug Primary is a Nut Aware school. Some of our students have a life threatening reaction to nuts and as a community we need to ensure we do not bring nuts or nut products to school. This bar was recently found in our school yard and as you can see contains various nuts. Please check all pre-packaged food to ensure they are nut free. Thank you for your help to keep everyone safe.

Kath’s Spot

Last week I was thinking about my children and all the data that is in my head about them. I tend to know what each child likes to eat, how they liked it cooked, and what their preferences are. I also know their general likes and dislikes, the things they enjoy doing and how they may react if they don’t get their way or are not given boundaries.

In light of all this, I think probably parents and carers tend to know their children best. However when your child is at school, they may even act differently, or unpredictably and you might not even recognise them as your son or daughter. You know what though, with all that information that you know about your child, and that which your child’s teacher has discovered, together we can help to raise these children to be the best that they can be. By helping to share with both parties what has worked, and what are your child’s strengths and weaknesses, we can make a difference and have so many great Wins along the way.

I said to one of my children’s teachers the other day, “don’t be afraid to be strong when my child presents their work with messy handwriting, we want him to be able to be the best he can be.”

Shouldn’t we all be striving to be this, ‘the best that we can be’? Excellence is part of our Snug CARES, let’s work together as a big team to produce wonderful well-rounded students who strive to be their best.

Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Year 5B

In 5B, we have been learning how to do persuasive writing. We have used OREO to help us write our paragraphs. The O means you state your opinion, the R means you give a reason, the E means give an example or evidence and the last O means restate your opinion. We also got to choose our own topics to practise our writing. We have remembered to put in a catchy title, an introduction and conclusion.

Ride2School Day

Some feedback from our community reports many students scooting across the highway and local streets dangerously and without helmets. Today was Ride2School Day so it’s a great time to remind our students about safety regarding wearing helmets and crossing roads. This fits with our Move Well Eat Well commitments and you can read more here:
