Principal’s Report
A very warm welcome back to all our learners and especially to our new families for 2018. We have had an exceptionally smooth first 3 days and I attribute this to the thorough planning and work of our teachers and staff. It has been wonderful to see all students revising the Snug CARES values and setting challenging learning goals for themselves.
Our first School Association Meeting will be held on Tuesday 20th February and then on the third Tuesday of each month. Our school association supports the school priorities and assists with the governance of the school. All parents are automatically members of the association along with the parent committee members who are:
- Brendan Coad – Chair
- Steph Semmens – Vice Chair
- Lorna Barrett - Treasurer
- Ali Nichols Howe - Secretary
- Katrina Graham - Member
- Sandra Sorgi - Member
- Andrew Watkins – Member
- Alice Godfrey – Member
- Michelle Rathbone - Member
- Catherine Coad – Member/Fundraising Sub-committee leader
Our Eat Meet and Greet BBQ will be held on Wednesday 28th February and is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and hear about the routines, expectations and learning that will occur in Term 1 and beyond. I encourage all families to come along, share a sausage and connect with our community.
A few safety reminders for the start of our school year:
- School hats are to be worn during Terms 1 and 4.
- Student are not permitted to be onsite until 8:30am as there is no supervision until this time.
- Students are to cross the highway with Simon our crossing guard.
- Parents are asked to please use the ample space on Tiers Road as parking or use the ‘kiss and drop’ turning circle.
- Our blue lines indicate the out of bounds areas. Scooters and bikes must be dismounted when reaching the line and walked to the bike rack area.
Thank you for your help keeping everyone safe.
I look forward to seeing the growth and development of all our learners (big and small!) in 2018.

Principal
Kath’s Spot
WOW it’s 2018!!! Welcome back to all our students and families, and a very special welcome to all our new students and families that have recently joined this wonderful school.
What a joy it was on Wednesday to see so many happy smiling faces, and so much excited chatter between everyone. I have been able to meet all our new students and spend time in their classes and have already seen them laughing, smiling, playing with new friends and enjoying coming back to school.
I am the Chaplain in Snug Primary School and you will see me at school on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but I am also a parent with children at this school so you will often see me pottering here, there and everywhere outside of these two days.
Part of my role is to help students and families feel settled, safe and secure, so I spend time both in the classes as well as connecting with students and families surrounding all issues of family life. I have lots of networks should you and the family need any extra assistance, including food hampers and vouchers.
I also help to coordinate the teams of community support for our school plays. If you can help with costumes, sorting, sewing, op shopping, set design, make up or hair, please sing out as we would love to have you as part of the team, whether it be for an hour or extra time - every little bit counts!
Sometimes when we start new things it can bring feelings of anxiousness for us all, so you can understand everyone at the start of the year feeling butterflies, or feeling a tad queasy or the like. Let’s try to use lots of praise and encouragement with both our children and ourselves! Some mountains can seem harder to climb than others. But, bit by bit, we can find ourselves gaining on that top peak. If you need anything along the way to help you and your family succeed, please yell out! I am practical, resourceful and kind, so nothing is too big or small to mention. What’s more, I am travelling this journey of parenting with you so am happy to learn along the way, and to share my own successes and failures; because it is only a failure if we fail to try. Let’s Be Our Best Together.
Many Blessings
Kath Dolliver
Chaplain
School Crossing

‘Little Sprouts’ and ‘Branching Out’
Little Sprouts and Branching Out sessions commence next Thursday morning (15 February) at 9.00am in the Kinder room. Stay tuned for Facebook and email updates of times and program details. Hope you’ve all had a lovely summer break – see you soon!
School Banking
Wednesday is school banking day. Please remember to write your student number on the deposit slips. Replacement Dollarmite wallets are available from the office.
New Bankers
New Bankers are very welcome – for every new banker, the school receives a $5.00 commission and then 5% of every deposit made thereafter. Just head to any Commonwealth Bank with some ID for yourself and your child (a drivers licence and birth certificate, for example) and ask to open a Youthsaver Account for School Banking. You’ll be given a deposit book and Dollarmites wallet on the spot and will be able to begin banking the next business day - it’s that easy!
Rewards Program
For every deposit your child makes, they will receive a silver Dollarmite token. Once they have received 10 tokens then will then receive a gold Dollarmite token which they can redeem for an exclusive Dollarmite reward item (see below).
Book Club
The current Book Club order forms are due back. Please include the correct money in your orders as the office can’t provide change.
A reminder that parents and carers can order and pay online via Book Clubs Loop.

We have been told we are at high risk for bushfires this season. Please see below for information and a ‘parent release’ form. Please return this form (one per child) to the school office ASAP if you haven’t already. Thank you very much to those of you that have returned the forms already.
