Principal’s Report

This is our final newsletter for 2016. Can I please thank all staff, families and especially our students for their hard work and efforts this year to accomplish our vision statement – Working together to achieve personal excellence. We have achieved a great deal this year together and I feel proud of the way we have challenged ourselves to keep improving.

We farewell:

We farewell our wonderful Mrs Sue Hastie from her leadership duties and look forward to working with her in a different role next year.

Also farewell to Ms Jane Tickner, teacher assistant, who will be continuing to work with students in another educational system. We wish Ms Jo McGruther all the very best as she pursues her cooking dreams next year.

We welcome:

Ms Linda Jolleys AST comes to us from Waimea Heights Primary School.

Ms Janelle Manshanden, a graduate teacher who has previously worked with our Grade 6 team, will work with Mrs Murphy on Grade 3.

Ms Fraser will join Mrs Duggan on Grade 2 and Mrs Ozkilinc on Grade 4. She has recently worked at Glenora District School.

Kath’s Spot

With new fresh starts happening this season, whether it is moving house, having a baby, moving up to a new classroom or to the upper years of primary school, please remember to give each other patience, understanding and a listening ear. One of my mentors always taught me "No one looks pretty during change". I think sometimes during change we are tired, and sometimes under skilled or unknowing. So, for your children, try to break down the instructions and use lots of encouragement.

Have a refreshing season, stay safe and enjoy those extra special moments with family and friends. I will look forward to seeing lots of excited students coming back to learn in 2017!

Summer Holidays Volunteers Needed

As a school community we are very lucky to have the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program at Snug Primary School; to make the most of it for our children we need to keep the garden going over summer so that there is food to harvest when the students get back to school.

If you are a passionate gardener or simply a passionate supporter of the program and could spare a couple of hours over the holidays to help in the garden I would love to hear from you. I am putting together a team of volunteers who are prepared to help to give Dave and Dearne a well-earned break and ensure that the garden is thriving for when the students return in term 1.

Jobs like watering and harvesting will be a couple of the important jobs that will be regularly needed to be attended to over the summer holidays.

Please contact Mandy on 0418 182 939 or email mandyagrawal19@gmail.com if you would like to help out.

School Medication and Lost Property

Just a reminder to please pick up your child’s medication from the school office on the last day of school and also to check Lost Property for any missing jumpers or jackets, drink bottles, lunch containers, hats, towels, bathers etc.

1967 Bushfire Commemoration Procession & Service

Please save the date, Tuesday 7th February (the day before Term 1 starts), and join with our school community to mark this significant occasion. Snug students are invited to walk in the Procession from school to the bushfire monument at the end of Beach Road carrying our school banner and dressed in full school uniform. Please meet at school at 1.00pm. Thank you to those families who have already indicated they can come, however we would love as big a Snug representation as possible, so please come along!

Registration to Work with Vulnerable People

If you volunteer at Snug, you are required to have a “Registration to Work with Vulnerable People”. The process for registration can be found here:

http://www.justice.tas.gov.au/

Please note: it is critical that, as a volunteer, you select ‘Department of Education’ (from the drop down box) as your Volunteer Body after you have answered the question: “Are you currently working or volunteering in a child related activity?”
