Principal’s Report
At Snug Primary we pride ourselves as being a community that Works Together. Clear communication is a critical part of collaboration and I am so pleased that parents and community members contact me regularly about issues, thoughts, suggestions and celebrations. Our teachers are also more than happy to speak with families about any questions, big or small. Keep coming in to the school, phoning or emailing. We are all committed to working together with you.
What a privilege it was to work with Dr Brian Cambourne on Friday 27th October as we learnt more about the aspects of effective writers and his theories of conditions for learning. For over 50 years Dr Cambourne has observed and interviewed students about the ways they learn literacy skills. We have benefitted from hearing about the indicators for effective users of writing and what learning tasks we can design to support our students.
We are all learners at Snug Primary School and I am pleased to announce that Assistant Principal Ange Burbury and I have been selected as Hardie Fellowship recipients for 2018. Our fellowship enables us to travel to the USA for 6 weeks to study at universities in New York, Boston and Denver. We will be look at the elements of successful principal pathway programs so we can bring our research recommendations back to the Department of Education in Tasmania. This is an exciting and humbling opportunity to learn from other systems.
Our thanks go to Mr Max Watson for his organisation for our Athletics Carnival on Thursday and our grounds team for preparing the oval for the events. It was wonderful to see many more parents and family members there this year. The rain held off just enough to get through the events. There were wonderful personal student achievements and efforts. The Snug CARES value of community and excellence were evident.
An extraordinary General Meeting will precede the final School Association Meeting for this year at 6:30pm on Tuesday 21st November . At this meeting we will be voting to adopt the new School Association Model constitution after changed through the new Education Act.
Following this we will have a regular meeting followed by a shared meal to celebrate our achievements together this year. All welcome.

Kath’s Spot
What a wonderful sight it was to be able to look around on Wednesday at our Athletics Carnival and see everyone excited and enjoying all the action.
There was so much take in around me, including the effort and enthusiasm, the persistence and the courage on the track. I saw house leaders with huddles of little kids from their house surrounding them while they gave instructions for relays, and I saw others students propping up friends who were about to fall over. I saw older students helping young ones, and I saw young ones yelling out words of encouragement to older students. What an image in my mind. My cup feels overflowing with gratefulness for such a warm, inspiring community for my children to grow up in.
Just like an athletic carnival, we as parents and carers, need others around us to prop us up when we need it most. When we are about to fall, we might need a support structure, or when we need some wisdom we might need an older parent or mentor to be able to fire some questions to, or ask for some suggestions. We might even need some words of encouragement to help us get over the line.
Along with this, we may also need to huddle a few of our friends together and provide wisdom in some next steps, or even some instructions of the process of 'how to play soccer' or 'how to make a weeks’ worth of meals in a day'.
All of this helps us and others be better people, and be able to play our role in this world, while making a significant positive impact on those around us. If you think you might need a bit of a prop up, or some extra support around you, please come and touch base, we want everyone to 'WIN' at this parenting gig.
Many Blessings
