Principal’s Report

These is so much to be celebrated and so much to look forward to, as we work together to achieve personal excellence in Term 3. As I walk around classrooms, I have seen many students engaged with writing and achieving their learning goals, this is a school wide focus for Term 3.

Our Prep and Kinder classes have enjoyed our first two sessions of the ‘Kinder Bush’ program. The program offers our students the opportunity to explore, inquire, problem solve, trial and re-test using a STEM approach. It is great to see our outdoor spaces being utilised in fun and engaging ways.

We look forward to some exciting events over the next two weeks. Firstly we have the Year 3 play, “Snow White and the Ten Dwarfs”, as well as, our Learners Expo week. This week will combine writing and reading, bringing together our writing focus across the school in exciting and engaging ways. We will have visits from both Authors and Illustrators and students will be sharing their writing and reading stories to each other throughout the week. The week will culminate in our annual Book Week Parade.

Have a great weekend.

Kath’s Spot

The other day I had a conversation with one of my boys about Snug CARES. He had had a small incident in which he was trying to be helpful packing up things, but had not made a good choice about caring for others around him in the process. For him in order to fulfil his task, he just needed to make it happen, no matter what it takes, however in reality it is more important to care for others during that journey.

Do you see this in your home situation? Does someone try to move quickly to get into the car to make Mum happy...but in the process knock a sibling over, and kick another siblings shoe out of the way? Living in community involves giving to others along the way, while respecting them and keeping them safe. Sometimes, little people in particular need to be reminded of this. Giving them skills to tell someone else when they need help, or if they feel they are moving into another zone is a gift you can provide for your children.

If you are able to help your child to move from a red zone, where they might feel angry or frustrated, into the green zone where they are ready to 'GO' and ready to learn, this is really helpful. They will thank you later in life for giving them these skills, especially when they are attempting to work in a workplace, and they might not necessarily agree with what another colleague believes or is doing. If you need some tips come and touch base.

Let’s try to raise well rounded children who have tools to be socially aware, and can contribute to society in a positive way, without knocking down everyone in the process.

Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Year 1B

Grade 1B has had a productive start to the term, with lots of new learning. In Science, we are observing different types of weather and the changes that occur in the sky and landscape. As part of this learning, we are making links between the weather and seasons. Last week, we selected a season and created a poem. We used our five senses to describe what the season looked like, sounded like, tasted like, felt like and smelt like. In Art, we created winter inspired collages using cool coloured paints and card.

In English, we have delved into Writer’s Notebook and are exploring the use of graphic organisers. This week, we have used Y-Charts to organise our thinking. We have looked at powerful and thought provoking photographs and recorded what we see, think and wonder.
