Principal’s Report
On Tuesday the rains came and so did all our wonderful students. How terrific it was to see them all arrive in full school uniform ready to learn. Don’t forget we have school beanies and scarves for sale at the uniform shop if your child requires extra layers. Other colours and styles of accessories are not acceptable as per our agreed policy. It was great to see Sophie and Patrick getting decked out in beanies by Dad this week.
Our tennis courts are looking great after being re-fenced over the break. This provides a safe and contained area for ball games and after school activities. Don’t forget to spread the word to local and family businesses that we would like to support them with our projects coming up.
We are always looking for more volunteers to add their skills to our learning programs here at school. If you have a spare hour or two in your week please feel free to come in and support the learning in your child’s or other classes. Regularly listening to a child read for 15 minutes can significantly improve their fluency and confidence, working alongside students asking questions develops their thinking and digging with them in the garden models lifelong skills. We hope to see you soon.

Kath’s Spot
A few days ago I did a quick dash into the supermarket to grab a few things. With my basket of things in hand I headed towards the checkout and made the dubious decision to join one of the 'full trolley' lines instead of the self-checkout. After placing my goods on the conveyor belt I started looking around, filling in time while the young mother in front of me was served. I heard her answer the server saying that she would have to buy bags 'because once again my head isn't screwed on and I can't seem to remember anything anymore'. It struck me that she sounded so sad and slightly overwhelmed by it all.
The young Mum had a little baby in a front pack and a little boy about the age of three or four. I soon noticed that the man serving her had a huge pile of stacked bags next to him and as I looked to her she looked tired, and was trying to manage the little boy "please don't take the packet of that umbrella, please put it back on the shelf. It is not ours and we have not paid for it" she tried to educate him. I made eye contact with her and asked "do you mind if I help by stacking your bags in the trolley for you?". She sighed and thanked me. I assured her "I have two hands not being used that are more than capable of helping out", she smiled.
I love it when I have a Win like this, where I have seen a need and been able to fill it. But as I drove home instead of feeling happy, I felt sad for all the moments that I might have missed this opportunity. It prompted me to make sure I keep my eyes out for such moments as these. I wonder, could you offer a simple act of kindness to someone else today? Maybe a hand to carry something, or to help tie a shoelace or the like. Maybe you could also encourage your children to 'look' for opportunities to help others aswell, because here at Snug Primary we know SNUG CARES.
Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Year 2A
In term 2, Year 2 A tried something different for Speaking and Listening. Instead of bringing toys to share, we were asked to share some information on any topic. Several of us decided to research some animal facts at home. We presented them on paper like a project and told the class the interesting facts we have found.
Every Monday we have paired reading with the other Year 2 class. We enjoy sharing our favourite books with them. The aim of this session is to read and listen to a partner. We have enjoyed working together.
NAIDOC Week was an exciting time for our class. We shared stories, played Barrier games, painted rocks, learnt an Aboriginal song, made damper and watched the television program Little J and Big Cuz. The program was recorded in the Palawa Kani (Tasmanian Aboriginal language). We added our own touches to the boards for the Barrier games. In order for us all to be creative and learn about Aboriginal symbols, we created Tic Tac Toe boards. We also decorated stones with symbols to use for the game.
In Science we have been investigating Forces. We looked at how forces change the way things move. We looked at how forces can change the direction an object is moving in and even its shape. In the photographs below the children are experimenting with a paper helicopter and learning to control its speed and movement by altering variable such as wing size.

OSHC Holiday Program
During these holidays we had 2 In Service Visits from Scott Gibson at Lady Gowrie. One of the experiences Scott showed us was how to carve some Hebel bricks, and some of the things others had made with them. The Hebel carving was a huge hit with the children, all of the children got to use a range of different tools, including hammers, chisels, rasps and a drill.
The children were asked what they thought of the experiences provided to them today some of the comments were:
“It was fun, I enjoyed using different tools.” – Jasmine T
“I enjoyed banging it a lot and a lot.” – Mia F
“It was fun, nice, fantastic, and creative. I enjoyed using the drill to dig holes and using tolls.” – Milla H
“I liked getting to use the tools.” – Ella S
“I enjoyed working hard.” – Francis T
“I enjoyed making stuff.” – Cody F
“I really enjoyed it – it felt really easy to carve. I liked how light it was and I enjoyed getting to use real tools.” – Otto H

Sick Children
Children who have been vomiting and/or have a temperature over 38 degrees are required to be kept at home for 24-48 hours. We understand this can be a difficult thing to juggle for families at times, however ask that you are respectful to our community in this way.
