Principal’s Report

We’ve had another busy learning fortnight at Snug. It was wonderful to see so many grandparents and family members attending the Prep History afternoon. Our creative teachers made history come alive with a museum display and prepared our accommodating ‘guides’ to explain about the artefacts.

Today you will receive your child’s mid-year report which is followed up by parent teacher interviews next week. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear about your child’s learning and progress this year and areas to support at home. Please make an appointment by clicking on this link:

We have several exciting events coming up in the remaining weeks of term which include NAIDOC activities, the Growing Up Program and a Crazy Science performance by Richard Scholes. Learning takes many forms and we look forward to participating in all of these opportunities.

Kath’s Spot

This year Snug Primary is particularly looking at Writing, and it has made me question my own abilities, or lack thereof, and I wonder what is it about Writing that we love most?

One of my friends is so wonderful at putting pen to paper and writing snail mail to all her friends and family, and I personally have had many letters, cards and postcards that I have received from her that I value immensely. My mother too when I was away in Geelong at University wrote every week for about 6 months and I have her letters to be able to continue to enjoy over the years.

I, personally, don't see myself as a writer, however I really value reading others' writing tasks, books, letters and much more. What is it that holds me back from writing more, I wonder? Is it time, or inspiration that gets in the way? Well, either way, if my boys see me writing, and being diligent and finding different ways to do this, I think they too will be inspired. Hopefully they will want to pick up a pencil or pen and write to a friend, or write a story for us to read at night when going to bed, or produce a book to gift to a cousin for a birthday present. Things like this are often treasured for years to come, just like my mother's letters are for me.

I remember one of our Snug families a few years ago produced a book together as a family. One son wrote the story, the daughter drew the pictures, and the other son edited and laid out the book to be published. The mother told me of the excitement each day, when the older son would come out with the next written page of the story, and the whole family would all sit together and read the next part of the adventure of the characters. The daughter would then race off with the enthusiasm for creating her next art masterpiece to place with that page of writing. How wonderful it was to hear of their journey of including the skills of each family member, and we are fortunate to have a copy of their story in our library.

Is this something your family could do, I wonder? If you do, we would love to display the works. It doesn't have to be printed, it can be handwritten, or however it comes- we would love to see your family writing! You may even be able to write a story where every member of the family might write the next page of the adventure. I think I might try this at home with my boys over the weekend- I wonder what challenges and adventures our characters will get up to along the way? Happy Writing!

Many Blessings

Class in Focus – The Year 3 Team

This term in English year 3 has been doing a unit on Poetry. We have been learning about different types of poems and some of the various literary devices used in poetry, such as alliteration, similes and onomatopoeia. Here are some of our poems.

Special thanks to all Year 2 parents for their support with the Year 2 plays. It was a wonderful effort.

A heads-up that the Year 5 play “The Audition” will be on Wednesday 5th July at 11.00am and 6.30pm. Tickets will be available for purchase (cash only please) from the office from Monday 26th June.

If anyone has clear plastic doona bags or pillow bags, we would appreciate them please. They are ideal for set and costume storage. Thanks for your support, Lorraine O’Malley.
