Principal’s Report

There were many reports of fantastic personal performances and great school spirit from the Huon and Channel Swimming Carnival. Congratulations to everyone who participated and supported each other showing our Snug CARES values.

Last week a team of our early childhood teachers went for an observational visit to Moonah Primary to see an inquiry based classroom in action. Reflections from the teachers report seeing curious, engaged and interested learners who built knowledge in an environment led less by the teacher and more by their peers. We are investigating the Walker learning Approach as a way to structure our early years classroom experiences and look forward to finding out more.

Other staff professional learning experiences have recently included: STEM implementation, sustainability in schools, aligning beliefs about writing, philosophy in education and early learning in Tasmania. We are all learners at Snug and I am particularly looking forward to attending my own two learning courses later in the year. When we model lifelong learning to our students, we show that continuous learning leads to fulfilling and productive lives.

Kath’s Spot

It’s that time of the term again, and I know for our family, sickness has raised its head and everyone seems a little tired and slow moving. As a Mum I have that "surely we can do it" thinking on... with the main objective of 'getting out the door' hopefully with everyone having a smile on their face.

Sometimes days are harder than others, especially if you yourself don't feel well. I know I have talked with a lot of parents lately who are sick themselves, and this takes a lot of energy to be 'on deck' for your children. Both emotional and physical energy is involved and sometimes that feels so hard. You might feel yuck for a day or so, or you may have just realized you've felt like this for weeks. If you are sick, or things just don't seem right, I encourage you to touch base with a doctor. They obviously are the experts in this, rather than ourselves, so go get some advice from them. As parents we always on deck to look after the children if they are unwell, but if we are the ones who are unwell, for some reason it gets put on the back burner. Why is that I wonder? Because if our tank is not filled up, how are we meant to give out energy to others?

I have also adopted the strategy of explaining to the kids in brief how I am feeling, so they can then adapt their thinking so I don't have to try being superwoman this week. I find too that if the kids know that I am unwell, they will make good on carrying out their jobs, which then in turn helps me.

In saying all of this, I have been unwell, and I find it hard to schedule time for me to get to the doctors, but reluctantly I have. Sometimes I even need to give myself a push...it helps though when you have friends around to encourage and support you. Be honest with those friends, and ask them to look out for you.

I wonder, how are you travelling?

Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Grade 5B

“A few days ago Grade 5 went on a excursion to water works. We had a tour guide named Darcy. He showed us everything about the dry eucalypt forest and the wet eucalypt forest. We learnt heaps. For example, what a wet/dry eucalypt forest needs to survive - it needs rain and relies on seeds to succeed and to keep the cycle going. Also wet eucalypt forests burn hotter than dry forests but dry forest burn more often. All in all we had a great time”. Charlie King.

Following the excursion to Waterworks Reserve, students were asked to draw a picture of the two types of forests (Dry Eucalypt Forest and Wet Eucalypt Forest) to compare the different characteristics.

Move Well, Eat Well

At Snug Primary, we are a Move Well Eat Well school. We encourage our students to eat healthy snacks of fruit and vegetables. All classes enjoy a fruit/veggie snack each morning. I would like to encourage you to have a wrapper free day. Please have a look at this link for more information on how to do it and how it can save you money.
