Principal’s Report
What a wonderful day yesterday for our school community on several sites. Congratulations to all of our students who participated so enthusiastically in the Grade 2-6 Swimming Carnival. We saw some brilliant efforts from students as they strived to achieve their personal best. The weather was kind and it was pleasing to see so many parents and family members attend. Our thanks go to Mrs Jac Parker for all her organisation making the day run smoothly.
Our littlest school members also had a day out with our Little Sprouts and Branching Out Programs based at Dru Point yesterday. Parachutes, bubbles and many smiles accompanied our curious and inventive children. What a glorious day.
In this newsletter you will receive information about Assessment and Reporting for the 2017 year and the NAPLAN testing coming up in Term 2. At Snug we have a rigorous testing and assessment schedule that ensures teachers have timely information about students’ learning. This information is used to plan for every child’s improvement across all learning areas. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about in-school or national testing.
Enjoy your long weekend, see you Tuesday.

Kath’s Spot
Do you ever look at the face of your children and think I wonder what the future holds for you?
I often find myself wondering what will be. Where will they live? Where will they travel? Will they marry or have children or both? I think it is exciting times watching on, learning more and more each day about their characters, because I think it helps to unlock more of the knowledge of what is to come. Especially as you see their passions rise up in them as they get older, I often picture that being a part of their future.
Today I was asking after an ex-Snug student, Jacob McConaghy, and hearing about his successes and his future endeavours. This made me think what a privilege it is to have been a part of his life, and seeing how an initial hobby has turned into a passion, and from there I imagine it will become his occupation. Jacob was born a premmie twin and was airlifted at one day old to the Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital for extra care, and now he proudly stands tall as a 15 year old with a giant passion for sailing. In January this year Jacob represented Tasmania in the national sailing competition in Adelaide and came 4th with his teammate. In July this year he has been chosen to represent Australia in Netherlands for the International Titles. What adventures he will have!!
When I asked Tanya, his Mum, about Jacob's successes she said "It makes me realise if they put their minds to it anything is possible if they believe in their dreams!” Absolutely!
Everyone's child won't necessarily have the opportunity to represent Australia, but everyone's child will have dreams. I know with my children, some have emerged with many passions, others have found it harder to find that 'something' that makes them excited about waking up each day and learning new things. Sometimes this takes years to find, but as a parent I encourage you to encourage them. And well done you, for dragging yourselves out of bed for the early morning soccer game, gymnastics session or track work, or for the fundraising that you do to support your child to attend a basketball camp or the like. A huge pat on the back for every extra effort you make, I hope that later on they will be able to share with you how much they appreciated it!
Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Grade 6
In Science in Grade 6, we have been learning about the basic needs of living organisms. So far we have learned that mould grows best in room temperature and in damp places. The bread that didn’t grow mould were the ones in a really hot place and a really cold place.
We have also learned about what conditions are best to grow broad beans. We have one broad bean in paper towel this one sprouted, one in soil but with no water this one didn’t grow at all, the broad bean in the dark was growing the best but it is now starting to go brown, the one in soil with water and light has also grown.
We just started learning about animal adaptations and how some animals have changed its behaviour or its structure features to help them get enough sunlight, water, food, air and an appropriate body temperature.
by Sophia Dodge and Amy Procter.
In Grade 6 Maths, Toby Reynolds, Callan Dahmes and Otis Harley have been focusing on Blaise Pascal, a famous French inventor, mathematician, physicist and religious philosopher, and Pascal’s Triangle. Pascal’s Triangle is where the two numbers above make the number below. Please see below for more information.
Snug CARES on the bus
Many of our students use our bus services. Recently we have reviewed our Snug CARES values about behaviour on the bus. Please take the time to share these with your child.
Snug Primary Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all students for the recent Snug Primary Swimming Carnival held on Thursday the 9th. We had perfect weather and a high level of participation. The day involved loud house cheering, a delicious array of food made by Dearne Coad and of course many swimming events. Mrs Parker would like to thank the SUPER AMAZING volunteers for helping set up, judge, cook, record and pack up. It simply couldn't happen without that support. It was a wonderful community event and judging by the many smiles from the students, was a huge success. Thank you and well done. Mrs Parker.

Snug Primary School - Reporting to Parents 2017
Eat Meet, Greet
Parents are invited to school for a BBQ and to meet the teachers on the Wednesday 1st March in Term 1. Teachers talk to parents of students in their class about how the class will run, routines and teaching and learning programs. Teachers present parents with a brochure outlining such things as class timetable, programs and routines. New staff members are invited to talk with senior staff further about this.
Hopes and Concerns
On Wednesday 1st March parents are asked to complete a “Hopes and Concerns” form indicating their child’s learning styles, interests and things that maybe concerning them. When this has been returned to school some parents/teachers may like to request an appointment to discuss the issues raised on the form.

Parent Teacher Interviews and Mid-Year Reports
Parent Teacher interviews are held between19th-23rd June. Reports will be sent home the week prior to this. Parents will book interview times using an online program. Interviews are based on the discussion form and work samples, including moderated samples.
