Principal’s Report

Our sincere thanks go to our School Association and the Turnbull family for presenting the school with a student lectern last Friday at out Bushfire commemoration Assembly. The lectern was made using the timber from Blackwood trees that were planted after the 1967 Bushfires that needed to be removed several years ago. They have been carefully dried, prepared and made into this beautiful piece that will support our students as they present assemblies and other speeches. What a wonderful gesture of the community working together to remember this event.

As I move around the school I have been so impressed with the student engagement in classrooms. Our teachers plan together in teams to develop rich learning tasks and questions to stimulate thinking. Our four priority areas this year are improvements in writing, problem solving, feedback and continuing our high standards around our Snug CARES values. Our School Improvement plan is on display on the boards outside the office and I invite you to read about our plans for 2017.

Our first School Association meeting is next week on Tuesday evening at 7pm. Please consider joining our Chair Brendan Coad and our hardworking group to plan for making 2017 another successful year.

Kath’s Spot

Well the alarms clocks are working well, and we all seem to be getting into the groove of getting back to school. Well Done for helping your little people to be excited about getting back to school, and for helping them in the moments of crisis as they are about to walk out the door "Mum, where are my shoes?".

I know for me I have already had one day where five minutes before we have been about to leave for school, my youngest son has stepped on a toothpick and then all of a sudden there is whimpering, the limping had begun and he says he "couldn't possibly go to school today!". I sigh, and then stop to work out what he really needs in the moment. I factor into the moment approximately 2.5mins of nurture and care is needed and is possible before I need to run out the door. Do you ever have these moments?

So much has often already happened for students before they have even reached the school grounds, and we thank you for being a gift to your children in these moments, especially when time is limited or when it is a struggle to get them here. We know though that if our students have had breakfast and felt cared for, that they will come ready to learn.

In fact when Mother Theresa was accepting her Nobel Peace Prize, she was asked "What can we do to promote world peace"... and she replied "Go home and love your family!". By loving and caring for your family unit you are helping to create 'World Peace'- Go You! Keep up all the hard work, and I look forward to hearing how you have overcome the mad morning scramble.

Many Blessings

School Banking

Wednesday is school banking day. Please remember to write your student number on the deposit slips. Replacement Dollarmite wallets are available from the office.

New Bankers are very welcome – for every new banker, the school receives a $5.00 commission and then 5% of every deposit made thereafter. Just head to any Commonwealth Bank with some ID for yourself and your child (a drivers licence and birth certificate, for example) and ask to open a Youthsaver Account for School Banking. You’ll be given a deposit book and Dollarmites wallet on the spot and will be able to begin banking the next business day - it’s that easy!

Rewards Program: For every deposit your child makes, they will receive a silver Dollarmite token. Once they have received 10 tokens then will then receive a gold Dollarmite token which they can redeem for an exclusive Dollarmite reward item (see below).

Competition! Every child that banks 15 times before the end of Term 3 will go into the draw to win an unforgettable family trip (for up to two adults and three children) to Tokyo, Japan (including five nights’ accommodation, return airfares, three day Magic Pass to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea and $1000.00 spending money!). So keep those deposits rolling in!
