Principal’s Report
Congratulations to the Grade 3 team for a wonderful ‘Dream Machine’ play on Wednesday. The students were well rehearsed and confident on stage. Many thanks to the parents who contributed so much time to the set design and construction. We are very proud of our Dramatic Arts program and are so appreciative to the whole community for their contribution to its success.
I would like to thank the teachers at Snug Primary School for their efforts over three staff meetings to compile draft class lists for 2017. A rigorous process has occurred where parent considerations and student friendships have been deliberated with multiple aspects of learning. Academic data, social and emotional learning, additional needs learning style and cultural understandings have all played a part in this process. Our teachers know our student learning needs and I thank them for their considerable effort with this process. Students will visit their new classes on the 20th of December as part of our transition process.
Next week Grade 6 students will be participating in Orientation Day to Kingston High and Woodbridge School. Transition to high school is an important step in students’ learning journey and we know our students will make the most of this opportunity to find out more. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions regarding this day.
Next week we will acknowledge and thank our numerous community volunteers for their work in our school. Morning tea will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday 6th December in the staffroom. Please come along if you have contributed to our SAKG program, helped with a play, listened to students read, given a speech to a class or helped glue in work to books. We value each and every contribution.

A friend who works in web design and advertising, asked for some feedback the other day on a recent ad for a meat company. As someone who enjoys this kind of creative work, I took a look and fed back that I loved it!! I loved the clean lines, not too busy, clear font and not too much writing... and the ad made me want to go get steak for dinner, so it had achieved its purpose as well.
It made me think kids are a bit like me! Or maybe is it that I am like them? They like clear boundaries, they like not too much talk or instruction (just tell it like it is), they like us to keep it simple just enjoy the moment, and they like the task to be clear.
Then I thought.... how do I go at doing those things with my own children?
I think sometimes I really win at this, where I am able to stop and tell them what I need them to do and why (in not too many words) for example " I'm going to need to clear the dishes into the dishwasher and take the scraps to the chook. This will help us to have a nice clean bench and the chook will be happy and fed". But other times I probably make the mistake of including too many instructions (then something always gets missed), and without knowing the 'why' sometimes they are reluctant to 'do'.
One thing that has worked great is our weekly family cleaning. The boys and I sit down (generally on the Saturday morning- a regular time is great, it avoids less arguments and confusion), and we create a list with each person having a set of tasks to complete. They then run off doing each step and ticking it off. Breaking down he tasks also makes for lots of ticks which then encourages them along the way. I always walk away feeling like it was a bit of a 'Win-Win'. I get to enjoy a clean and tidy house, while together we enjoy positive family time, and they also are helping to give by contributing to family life.
What are wins in your house, and what do you want to improve to help make the day to day life more of a win? It's been encouraging hearing some of the stories from different families that have come from reading my little spot, I look forward to hearing more!
We are almost there to the end of the year... Many Blessings

Class in Focus – Grade 5B Simson
In term 4, Grade 5B students have been focussing on their mapping skills. After improving their skills when interpreting maps, students were set the challenge of producing a hand drawn map of Italy.
Using a 6x7 grid to guide them, students enlarged a map of Italy, square by square. Students added the largest Italian cities to the map, as well as the physical features, such as mountains and vegetation. Students made sure their maps contained all of the important map features; including a title, legend, border, orientation and scale.
We are very proud of the outcome. We hope you enjoy admiring them too!
