Principal's Report

Dear Families

We are delighted to have received the report from our External School Review that was conducted earlier this term. This is a review held every four years for all Tasmanian schools. We have much to celebrate about what the panel members saw and heard during their day of interviews. Here are some quotes from the report:

  • The panel found ample evidence that Snug Primary School was an innovative, success- orientated, caring, learning community.
  • The panel found that Snug exhibited a strong sense of pride and accomplishment in its own internal school community and its links with the wider Snug regional community.
  • Staff indicated that Snug was a fulfilling place to work; citing collegiality, appropriate challenge, forward thinking and support as key organisational elements.
  • Students at Snug were clearly proud of their school.

I will be sharing the full report at the School Association AGM on 20th September. Please come along at 7.00pm and show your support. We will be voting in new parent members to several vacant positions on the committee.

We have our Annual School Satisfaction Survey coming out next week for students, families and staff. Families will receive a survey site and personal access code letter, to provide feedback to the school for future planning. I look forward to hearing from our community.

A reminder that every school day matters for your child. There are numerous studies on school attendance and their effect on student learning outcomes and we know that every day is a day for learning growth. Even birthdays!

Finally, I would like to thank our dedicated grounds team Dave, Matt, Brett, Ruth, Stan and Renee for their work in making our grounds look beautiful. We have a superb school setting and I thank the team for the pride they take in maintaining our site.

Kath's Spot

It's the end of the soccer season for our family and so weekends tend to slow down and we get a different type of family time. I know footy has also finished up, and all of a sudden I feel like we might possibly have some free time on the weekends. Despite feeling joy about finally having a little bit of spare time, I actually really enjoy watching the boys' sports activities, and I feel immensely proud of their achievements.

I wonder, how do you show your child that you are proud? Is it with words or encouragement, a high 5, or taking a photo to remember the moment to show them in years to come? We will all do different things, and there are all different occasions to celebrate their achievements.

Sometimes I may have felt proud, but I think I have missed the moment to let my boys know that I am proud of them. I have been so busy picking up all the soccer drink bottles and jumpers, or organising lifts that I have forgotten to congratulate them. Sometimes it has been moments, or hours later that I have stopped and said to them "I love the way that you....." or "I am so proud of how you...". I guess it's better late than never!

We all have busy lives, with so many balls to juggle, but I wanted to say 'You are doing a great job!. What can you see in your child's life that you could encourage them in today? They often thrive on this positive affirmation, and I am sure they would have a big smile on their face after you are able to show them how proud you are of them.

Many Blessings,

Kath Dolliver

Class in Focus – Kinder-Prep

To celebrate the Olympics, Kinder/Prep and Prep took a plane trip to Rio in Brazil. We made our own passport and luggage. We had our passport stamped as we boarded the plane. We experienced a 'real' take-off and landing on the Smart board. We also learned some facts about Rio landmarks and the Olympic Games. We ate Brazilian sweets. We also had our own Mini Olympics. The children participated in country teams to complete running, gymnastics, javelin, basketball, soccer, target throw, rhythmic gymnastics and hurdles. We had a medal ceremony and lots of fun.

Footy Colours and Jump-Off Day

Snug Primary will be combining the Footy Colours Day and the Jump Rope for Heart "Jump Off" Day celebrations. This will be held on Thursday the 22nd of September.

The Jump Off will be between recess and lunch. There will be skipping stations set up around the school, which will be led by Grade 6 students and classes will accompanied by their teacher.

Students may have the choice of wearing red clothing/accessories to support the Heart Foundation or football colours from any code (AFL/Soccer/Rugby) and are asked to bring along a donation. All proceeds will go to the Heart Foundation and any prizes received by the school will be shared amongst grades.

The Jump Off day is a great opportunity for everyone to see how much fun skipping can be so come along and pick up a rope!

Snug School Backpacks

As part of our uniform policy, students are encouraged to use our Snug Primary backpacks. They come in sizes medium and large. These backpacks are designed for growing student bodies and balance the weight of equipment safely across the back and hip area. They show we are part of the Snug team and present beautifully to our community. Please consider the purchase of one of these bags for your child.

Past Snug Student Cricket Star

At Snug Primary, we are delighted to share the success of a former Snug student, Beau Webster. Beau attended Snug Primary and is a member of the Tasmanian Tigers cricket team and plays locally for the Kingborough Knights. He has just been selected to play for the Australia A side against India. Beau has certainly upheld the school mission statement of working to achieve personal excellence and we wish him all the best with his cricket career. Beau' cricket journey began locally at the Kettering Cricket Club which then saw him join the Cricket Tasmania and Kingborough Knights junior cricket pathways, this pathway getting him to where he is today.

Our students have recently been involved in the HPCT cricket program run by senior Kingborough cricketer, Thomas Martyn as part of their PE lessons. We hope these sessions have inspired some to get involved in either indoor or outdoor cricket - you never know, the next Beau Webster might be amongst our school community!

Little Athletics

We will be kicking off our season on the 1st of October with a 'Come and Try Day' from 9.00am to 10.30am.

Little Athletics is a great sport for ages 5 through to 15 where children learn gross and fine motor skills, social interaction, and about doing 'your best'. We also offer Tiny Tots, a great fundamental basic skills program designed for 3-5 year olds.

Little Athletics is all about improving on your personal best, not necessarily about winning, and is a good grounding sport for all other individual and team based sports.
