Principal's Report

Congratulations Snug Primary for another successful grant application. Tas Community Fund offers resources for community projects and we were so pleased to have received funding towards a playground upgrade. This will allow us to provide an active learning environment not only for our students but for the whole community. We look forward to beginning plans for this.

Families of Grade 3 and 5 students have received the student reports for the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) this week. The results of these assessments will be used with many other data sources to help us plan for future areas of focus in the school. If you have any questions about these assessments please speak with your child's teacher or a member of senior staff.

Last Friday we welcomed some Italian guests to our school from our sister school region in Umbria. They were so impressed with our wonderful school, the natural environment and thoughtful questions from our students. These kind of cultural experiences open up student thinking about our global community and we look forward to continuing our ties to San Fillipo.

On Monday, Mrs Sue Hastie will return from long service leave and will assume Acting Principal for 8 days whilst I am on long service leave.

This year we are combining Literacy and Numeracy week, Book Week and Science Week into Snug Primary's 1st Learning Expo which will follow our usual Book Week Parade on Friday 26th August at 9:30am.

We invite you to come to your child's class after the parade and celebrate some of the amazing learning experiences happening in classrooms. Teachers will have a variety of activities and events to showcase until recess, as we celebrate learning across our school. We hope to see you there.

Kath's Spot

Emma McLean is an Aussie Olympian who has certainly put her name out there this week after the world has watched her journey in the Rio Olympics.

Imagine one of those moments that we all have, when you feel like you just didn't manage to pull out your best performance.... then imagine the whole world watching on in this moment.

After helping the Aussie team to win Gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay on Monday, Emma competed in the 100m butterfly final, only to finish seventh after going into the final with the second fastest qualifying time. She was devastated and found it hard to talk during the after race interview, and Aussies rallied behind her offering support online. But then on Wednesday she went into the pool with determination and won a Bronze medal for the 200m freestyle.

This is a great example of 'bouncing back'. She put the butterfly race behind her and pushed forward to come out with another medal to add to her collection. This is the same determination that we all strive to have and we certainly encourage it in all our students.

Olympian swimmer, Yusra Mardini, is another wonderful example of this. After escaping the Syrian war in 2015, she pulled her boat, carrying 17 fellow refugees, to safety. What a journey she has been on to get her to the point that she is today.

We all have been on a journey, and I encourage you to try bounce back, especially in the moments when you feel really disappointed. Remember tomorrow is a new day; it's a great moment to start afresh.

Many Blessings,

Kath Dolliver
