Principal’s Report
Our teachers have been busy writing reports recently and we have been celebrating the personal progress seen by all students. An example of this was when a student came to my office this week to share his spelling progress since the beginning of the year. Spelling improvement has been an area of focus for our teaching staff over the past few years. In 4 months he had made 14 months’ progress in one testing format and was able to tell me – “I have been practising and I think that is really helping. I wonder where I will be at the end of the year?” We look forward to finding out!
Getting our students to be more articulate about their learning is a priority for us presently. Teachers are explicitly letting students know what they will be learning before the lesson and what it will look like when they successfully achieve the learning goal. You can support this by talking to your child about what they are learning.
We were so pleased to be named as one of the schools to receive a funding commitment of $2.5m for a new Gymnasium. We will be involved with several consultation phases first and look forward to work starting in 2018.
A reminder to families that students are not to be left unsupervised in the playground after school finishes at 2:50pm. We offer a wonderful after school hours care service if families need to call on the day for their child to attend.

Kath’s Spot
One of the boys recently brought home some homework where they needed to ask me about who did the chores in my house when I was little, and it made me resurface some funny stories surrounding chores in our household.
I came from a household with 6 children, of which I was the youngest child. Each child had a job that they were in charge of completing as part of being a family. My sister, who is 14 years my senior, was responsible for washing and drying the dishes for us all. Later as us younger children grew we too had bigger tasks such as this.
One night my sister was procrastinating about doing the dishes, and my mum kindly asked her to hop up from the couch and do the dishes, her response was "in a moment". This happened another 2 times, then my mother walked calmly into the kitchen, got a large tin of beetroot and proceeded to get every dish out of every cupboard and pour beetroot juice over it all. Then she calmly said to my sister "next time you will act the first time that I ask you". Imagine that? My Mum definitely was a tough nut, and although her parenting style was firm it was also calm and effective. No longer did my sister side track on the way to doing the dishes.
We all have our own styles, and sometimes I find I need to try something to work out if it works. I might test it out and then think 'that didn't work very well', or maybe 'that worked really well'. Sometimes the idea is effective, but I can see a way that it can also be improved. I guess that's what parenting is all about, trying to be the best person we can be for our children, and trying to have boundaries so they know where they stand, and what is acceptable.
I encourage you all to get creative in your parenting, perhaps not the beetroot method of my wonderful tough Mother, but perhaps design a chores chart, with stickers as a reward. I have even heard of families writing a list of jobs together, then they pump up the music and put the timer on for 15mins and see how much can be achieved working together as a team. Go get 'em, remember life together as a family unit is about working together to make life the best that it can be. Enjoy! I look forward to hearing about some great Wins!
Many blessings,
Kath Dolliver

The Grade 3 Team – Mrs Pullen and Miss Woolley
The Grade 3 team has been looking at Reflection (Flip), Translation (Slide) and Rotation (Turn). Students had to fold a square diagonally and draw a pattern. They then reflected this on the other side. Patterns were printed using acrylic paint and blocks.
Rotation - The object has been turned once each time. Indigo
Transformation - The object has been slid along. Keavy
Students in Grade 3 have also been looking at Maths Designs.
We folded a piece of paper diagonally in half to create a line of symmetry and drew a design on it. We put the paper up to the window and traced over the design. When we opened the paper we had two exact symmetrical patterns. Jasmine
We placed the piece of paper over the block of printing polystyrene. We traced over the symmetrical pattern pushing hard with a pencil. Teo
We rolled the paint onto our design. Charlie
We pushed the painted side onto paper and pushed it down. We were left with the print on the paper. Lily
Crazy Hair Day for Sondip
The SRC are having a crazy hair day on Wednesday 8th June to raise money for our sponsor child, Sondip Das. Bring some loose change for crazy hair and the change will be put into a line of money for your grade. The grade with the longest line of loose change will win a Movie Afternoon!
Grade 2 Play – Jack and the Beanstalk

Interschool Cross Country
On Wednesday the 25th May, 46 students represented Snug Primary at the HCSSA Cross Country. It was held at Huonville Primary and was a very chilly morning. Despite the cold all students remained positive, cheerful and determined to do their best. The Snug tent was positioned well and we could cheer for students twice as they ran past. All students participated extremely well with many place getters and Grade 3 and 4 girls taking out the team pennant! Thank you to all of the wonderful parents and members of the community that came down to support and cheer. Thank you to Mrs Lorna Barratt for being our official for the day. Mrs Parker.

RBF Awards – nominate now!
The RBF Awards nominations period has opened and nominations for exceptional staff and volunteers from across the Department are being accepted. Recognising excellence is important, not only in rewarding people for their outstanding work, but also because it provides an opportunity to share information and inspirational insights, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes for our students.
Kinder 2017
If your child will be ready for Kinder in 2017 (turning 4 in 2016) please pop into the school office and register his/her name, pick up an enrolment package and start the enrolment process. It helps us immensely in our planning for how Kinder will operate in 2017.
Kitchen News
Save the kitchen and garden program
Hey there, do you want to help us in our nice kitchen and garden? It is very good to be a helper because it improves your social skills. We love our school so please come and help so we can keep this fantastic program running. In Australia only 800 schools get to do the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden Program, and we are one of the lucky ones but without volunteers we can’t go on. Grades 3 and 5 especially need volunteers.
Please help us!

Lost Property
With the weather changing, there are lots of jackets and jumpers being taken on and off and, in the process, some of them are losing their owners! Please don’t forget to check lost property (located in the foyer of the Office) for missing items of clothing, drink bottles, lunch boxes etc .
Sick Children
Children who have been vomiting and/ or have a temperature over 38 degrees are required to be kept at home for 24-48 hours. We understand this can be a difficult thing to juggle for families at times, however ask that you are respectful to our community in this way.
