Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Families and Community,
As a school, we have been reimagining our Snug CARES values, and what they mean for us as a school. Developed many years ago, Snug CARES is an acronym for:
COMMUNITY
Our Snug Primary School community is everyone who is part of our school. We support and encourage each other to learn and be our best.
ACCEPTANCE
At Snug Primary School we accept that life is full of challenges and we need to meet with challenges courage and resilience.
RESPECT
Respect at Snug Primary is about treating everyone with kindness, consideration and fairness
EXCELLENCE
At Snug Primary School, excellence is about being the very best version of ourselves. We understand that we are not perfect, and we won’t always get things right, but we are constantly thinking about how to improve.
SAFETY
At Snug Primary School, we ensure everyone is physically and emotionally safe.
We are going to be doing much more around these values in coming Terms, and share with you what it means not just for our students, but our staff, and our community too.
Kind regards
Kath’s Spot
In life no matter our best laid plans, sometimes our plans just don’t go according to what we thought. I believe it’s how we act next in those moments of frustration or disappointment that count.
What do you do in those moments? Do you give up? Say to yourself it’s all too hard, or think ‘maybe it wasn’t meant to be?’. If we can learn strategies to bounce back in that moment, it will help us to move forward and to gain skills for life.
Sometimes I will take a breather and to try to rethink my strategy forward, or sometimes I might call a friend and talk through some ideas.
Our students have been learning this habit of the mind that we have strategies to help us bounce back if things don’t always go to plan. So I encourage you to have a conversation with your child to think together of some strategies that will help in the moment. Two heads will always be better than one, and you’ll be surprised what great ideas you can come with together.
Class in Focus – 1-2B Griffiths & Semmens
Students in 1-2B have been travelling far and wide this term, learning about Paris during the Olympic Games and more recently, Australia. We have being investigating what we can see and do in the capital cities in Australia. To add some healthy competition into our class we have had an exciting time sorting the Australia puzzle in the shortest amount of time. Teaka holds the record at the moment, completing the puzzle in only 16 seconds!
Our current map champion, Teaka!
This week, we are taking a closer look at places around Tasmania in preparation for our grade 1/2 'Lap of the Map' project. Through our research, we have found out some interesting facts:
Harry: 'Derby is well known for mountain bike riding'.
Isaac: 'Water was pumped from other places to use in the Derby tin mine'.
Zarli: 'You can visit the Blow Hole in Bicheno where water goes everywhere'.
Hazel: 'Nature World in Bicheno is where you can go to see animals like Tassie devils and sugar gliders'.
Hudson: 'There is an island near Bicheno called Diamond Island where you can see the penguins coming onto the beach'.
George: 'You can visit the wharf in Bicheno and go to restaurants and eat fresh fish and chips and lobster'.
Archie: 'Hogarth Falls is a 40 minute walk from Strahan'.
Mason: 'Tin was mined in Derby a long time ago'.
Aaliyah: 'The Ringarooma River has been used for many things'.
Zoey: 'Huon pine, which is found around Strahan, doesn't rot because of the oil in it'.
We look forward to learning more about Burnie, Zeehan and Launceston next week.
Book Fair
Our Book Fair will be held in our school office from Monday 19 August until Friday 30 August. EFTPOS facilities will be available, as well as cash. This gives our students a couple of weeks to save for a special book and/or maybe do an extra job or two at home to help buy something they’re going to love! 😊
Book Week Parade
We are going to hold our Book Week Parade on Thursday 22nd August.
This year we are trialling something a little bit different as we are going to go on a Community Walk. This decision has been made as last year we had so many families dress up and wanted to celebrate the effort by sharing this with our community.
We will leave school around 9am and walk down Snug Beach Road and swing around via Snug Village for the residents to view the parade. I will send out a map and the schedule of classes and departure times as it gets closer.
