Principal’s Report
Hi Parents, Family and Community,
I know I am not alone in being completely surprised we are already half way through 2024. It has been a wonderfully settled first half of the year, with our team and students deeply engaged in learning. I know also, many are worn out, so the holidays have arrived at a perfect time!
Parent teacher meetings: I would like to thank you all for braving the cold last week to attend our parent teacher sessions. I know they are an extremely valuable opportunity for our teachers to meet with you to discuss your child’s progress, and chart together how we can all support their learning at school. There will be another opportunity to meet with teachers in week 9, Term 3.
Staff, class changes, Term 3 and 4
We have a few changes to staffing, and as a result our specialist classes for Term 3. Mrs Lorraine O’Malley, who kindly agreed to fill our vacant Drama position for half a year, will finish tomorrow. A big thank you to Mrs O’Malley for her hard work in putting on the hugely successful Year 4A Dr Seuss play on Wednesday night.
For Term 3 and 4 of 2024, Drama will be replaced by Art which will be taught by Mrs Robyn Pullen. Mrs Pullen will operate out of the student’s classrooms. (No decision has been made about what specialists subjects will be offered in 2025).
Mr Wyss will finish his contract on 5-6B. A big thank you to him for his work with our upper primary. Mrs Taylor Latta, who is returning from maternity leave, will teach 5-6B for the remainder of the year.
Mrs Emily Beadle, who was also teaching 5-6B one day a week, will now teach 5-6C on Thursdays, alongside Mr Ben McDermott because Mr Pete Simsons has decided to continue to take Long Service Leave for the remainder the year.
We also welcome back Dearne Coad to the kitchen, after her teacher placement at Blackman’s Bay (part of her completing studies to become a teacher). Thanks to Kath Dolliver and Mandy Agrawal for filling in with lunch provision on Tuesdays and kitchen classes on other days. Thanks also to Jorja Jaggard for her work in 5-6C this term.
NAIDOC
We had an action-packed NAIDOC day on Thursday. We started with a smoking ceremony, then an assembly, with many classes sharing their learning of elements of First Nations culture. The community was welcomed to a morning tea, and students then enjoyed a NAIDOC Ball at lunchtime. Celebrating NAIDOC Week in at Snug is an important part of our calendar, as it fosters an understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and achievements among students. It promotes inclusivity and respect, encouraging students to recognize and value the contributions of Indigenous peoples to Australia's heritage. Additionally, NAIDOC Week activities can inspire students to engage in meaningful conversations about reconciliation and the importance of cultural diversity
School holidays: Please enjoy your school holidays, and time with your families. We look forward to seeing students back safely, on Monday 22 July.
Kind regards

When I was younger I used to participate in dance classes, and I loved it. I performed Jazz and Tap dancing, and the more I did it, the better I felt, and the more success I had throughout the years. When I was fourteen I even received a scholarship for the year, so during that year I tried my hand at ballet aswell.
What I loved most about dance, was the freedom that I felt when I was dancing. There is something about the music going, and your body being free to move to the music. I felt like it was good for my soul and for my mind, and when carrying out fitness I know it releases endorphins that help you to literally feel happy.
Our students this week have been focussed on the Habit of the Mind of Excellence, particularly focussed on the fact that we try hard at PE, because we know that exercise is good for our bodies and minds. When our students are in both daily PE and their PE sessions with Mr Kennedy, we know that this exercise is good for their bodies and minds, and trying hard is a way of striving to better themselves and to commit to achieving their best. In turn, the higher frequency we have of carrying out a habit, such as exercise, the more capacity that lasting change will happen. In fact Brilliantliving would say “The little small daily things we do day in day out, week in week out and then month in month out, go into making the person we are - how we think, feel and act”. It's about investing into making an effort, and we want our students to strive towards this, and we invite them to begin by trying hard in their PE sessions.
As school holidays begin, I hope you all have a wonderful two weeks break, filled with adventures and fun together. Stay safe!
Class in Focus – 1-2A Dyball
1-2A were set a design challenge to help Jack make a speedy exit from the beanstalk. This teamwork exercise was embraced by students as they worked together learning about the different qualities needed to make a great team!
