Principal’s Report
Dear Parents, Families and Community
With term 2 coming to an end, I want to thank you for your ongoing support of Snug Primary. As I keep saying, we are a community school, community is one of the five pillars of our Snug CARES values.
One question we often get asked by families is “What can I do at home?”
- Encourage Reading
I know this is a drum I beat regularly, but it is so vital to schooling, it can’t be said enough. Reading is fundamental to learning and development, and you can support your child to read every day by setting aside a dedicated reading time; join the Kingston library, and regularly visit; and really importantly, read alongside your child, and talk about what they’ve read to help deepend understanding and comprehension. - Use Technology Wisely
We know that often, it’s the Ipad or the phone that replaces the book in family homes. We would always recommend monitoring screen time to ensure it is balanced with other activities. If students are on their devices, consider installing apps like Reading Eggs, Mathletics, or any other educational app that they can use when on them. - Foster a Love for Learning
How are you talking about learning? Are you making learning a fun and integral part of everyday life? Sometimes, we have had negative experiences at school ourselves, and subconsciously talk about learning 9and school) in a negative way. Instead, look for opportunities to integrate learning in to day to day life. Making damper? How much flour? How much water? In the garden? Why do we need fertiliser? What’s it doing to help the plants? - Establish a Routine
Super, super important that you have a regular routine. This might include time to do home reading, dinner and fun activities. Critically, a stable and suitable bedtime is a must – we sometimes see students who have not had sufficient sleep, and it really is a battle to get through til 2.50, and learning certainly suffers. - Communicate Openly
We all know that finding out what happened at school can be a tough question. But persist with finding out about their day at Snug, ask them to talk about what they learned, what they enjoyed, and any difficulties and challenges they may have had. As always, we are available to chat about anything. - Informed and Involved
Reports go home today – please have a goat them, and if they raise any questions, chat to your child’s teacher at next week’s parent teacher interviews. We want you to be part of your child’s schooling, and our school so please take the opportunity to come along.
Thanks again for your ongoing support.
Reports and Parent Teacher Meetings
Reports will be coming home with students today. Parent Teacher meetings will be happening the week of Monday 24 June until Friday 28 June. Online bookings close at midnight tomorrow, Saturday 22 June, so please be sure to go here and book a slot if you haven’t already:

Kath’s Spot
Can you remember a time when you were in a setting feeling very alone, maybe uncomfortable or unknowing of the setting or group, and someone came over and welcomed you in? How did this feel?
I know I have had a moments when I have turned up to a PL Day, to a new environment where I knew no one, and it was with a new organisation and I didn’t know how they run, or what was the go with what the process, and someone welcomed me and let me know the process and invited me to join their group and to sit with them. This put me at ease, I felt relaxed again, and open and ready to learn and take in new information.
Our students have been chatting about the habit of the mind of community, in particular, about finding ways to include others. I know sometimes it feels easier to include some people over others, but in reality I believe community is about including everyone. We want to encourage everyone to look for those that might be on the outskirts of groups, and look for ways to help include them in the process. This might be inviting someone to play the game of gaga ball that the rest of the group is playing, or perhaps even letting someone know about an event that everyone else on the team knows about, but they might not have got the memo about.
Everyone loves to be at least invited, and then they can choose whether they would like to participate on their own level, so please see how you may be able to stretch out the invite wider to others.

Year 5/6 Netball
It was great to see our Year 5/6 students crushing it at in the netball final last night! Well done to Snug Gold on taking the title, and Snug Purple for putting up such a good fight.
State Cross Country
Snug Primary was made proud today with Lincoln, Ellie and Isabella at the All Schools Cross Country representing their school. Isabella came 26th out of 226 female runners in her age bracket. Well done everyone!

EdSmart Communication System
Our School will be receiving a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will ‘go live’ for Snug Primary School during April/May.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
