Principal’s Report

Hi Parents, Families, Caregivers and Community,

We have had a fantastic few weeks at Snug Primary, with plenty going on to engage students and link with you.

It was fantastic to have fathers pop down for our on the run breakfast; the Winter Feast was a huge success, with hundreds coming along to enjoy the balmy weather, and watch the black clouds part and skirt around us to leave us warm and dry – thank you our School Association, and in particular Hannah, Emma and Rob, for making this happen; and we had our first Italy day yesterday, a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the language program at our school. A big thanks to Zoe Sharman for all of her work putting this together. Year 3-6 students also participated in the MAST boat safety program earlier this week.

Class Placements

You will be sent a letter next week informing you about the process for class placements for next year. This is a chance to let us know about things you would like us to consider for your child’s class placement in 2024. I do want to make clear that while we always consider parental requests, and endeavour to accommodate them (and we have an increasing number of these each year) there may be occasions when these requests are unable to be met. Our teachers, as you would recognise, best know how your child is learning within the classroom, and make deliberate and well considered decisions about where and who they believe they will perform best with. We thank you for your understanding about the process.

Learn to Swim

Learn to Swim starts next week for our Years 3-5 students. This is a compulsory program, put in place to ensure your child develops basic swimming skills and safety around water. This government initiative is a wonderful experience for your child to participate – we are lucky here in Tassie that it is government funded. Please ensure your child has their clearly labelled ALL items of clothing (socks and underpants too)!

Reading

I know I keep banging this drum, but I can’t say enough about encouraging all of you to develop and implement really regular opportunities for your child to read at home. Ideally, you would be involved in this reading – sometimes reading o your child, sometimes having them read to you. Ask questions about the text, explore it with them, and above all promote reading as fun! If you can’t set aside time, please encourage them to spend minimum 20 minutes each afternoon, evening to read their own books. We are going to be implementing new approaches to lift reading outcomes at our school in 2024, and we need your support so your child(ren) are meeting their potential.

Kath’s Spot

This week at Snug Primary our students have been working on the habit of the mind of “Community, that we can make a difference”.

We know that together as a unit we can make a difference, but it is great for the students to recognise that they as an individual can make a difference to those around them. Whether it is a kind word they say, a helping hand they can give, or the way they can look out for someone that may be feeling lost.  What they do in the moment, can make a significant impact on others.

Just as what we can do, can make a real difference, the words we speak, the text we write, the things we do, can all make a difference to those around us.  So I encourage us all, to continue to look out for what we are doing, and check how we individually can improve and make a positive impact for the better of others.

I would love to take this opportunity to thank all those who made such a wonderful effort in helping to make the Winter Feast happen last week.  Every bit of extra time, every phone call, and organising was appreciated, and the community benefited by the opportunity to gather together, Thankyou!!
