Principal’s Report
Another term has ticked by. Term 3 has certainly been busy, especially with Learn to Swim, but as is almost always the case, our students have excelled. I mentioned in a recent assembly the incredible reports we continue to get about Snug Primary School students and how they represent us out in the community. Over recent weeks, with many of our students off site at different events, the overwhelming sentiment that feeds back to us from parents, community members, and the people in the organisations we visit, is just how incredibly respectful, thoughtful and well behaved our Snug students are. We really are blessed to have such amazing young people at the centre of our community.
Trivia Night
Plans are well afoot in preparation for our School Association Trivia Night on October 18. We have already sold a number of tables, but as we are raising money to purchase shade sails for our top block, are keen to get as many people as we can long so we can get as much as possible to support this great initiative. Please contact the office for tickets – you can purchase a full table (up to 10 people), or individual tickets, and the admin staff will place you in a team. Tables cost $150 to purchase, individual tickets $20 each. There are LOADS of great prizes coming in, it will be a brilliant night, so please come along if you possibly can. It really helps us if you can book the tickets as soon as possible! Thanks. If you can help with set up on the day, please let the office know too.
Raffle Tickets
Furthermore, there are 10 x raffle tickets coming home with each 'oldest in the family' student today (Friday 27 September). They are $2.00 a ticket and are due back to the office with money by Friday 18th October (our Trivia Night). Please be sure to write your surname and mobile number on each ticket so we can contact the lucky winners! :)
2025
Plans are already underway preparing for next year. We are in the process of firming up staffing, after which we will look at putting together classes. I would like to express just how much time and energy our staff put in to creating classes. Our teachers and staff always make these class decisions in the best interests of ALL students – and that is a difficult and complex task, and always an imperfect one.
Holidays
Last day of term 3 today! We look forward to seeing students back on Monday, October 14.
Kath’s Spot
I was recently walking through the school gates and was reading the sign out the front that displays our Snug Value that we are currently working on. I was chatting with a student as we walked and talked and I asked him what he thought it meant to demonstrate excellence by caring about our learning. He explained it meant that you would make an effort with your hand writing, and not just rip up your work and throw it in the bin. He confirmed that you would make the extra effort and take the time needed to do a good job.
I thought it was a wonderful explanation of what it means, and what it looks like in a practical sense. It was a great time for me to stop and reflect on my own learning and the level of effort and demonstration of excellence I put into what I do. I wonder what it is that gets in the way of my work not being excellent all the time? Maybe tiredness? What is it for you?
May we all continue to strive for excellence, by helping each other to put the extra effort in to preparing and performing to our best.
As we head into another holiday break, I hope you all have a restful, joyful time away from the regular structure of school days. May the sun decide to stay out, at least for a few days, and may the wind provide for all our washing to get dry, and the rain to fill up all the water tanks.
Class in Focus – 3A Brennan
In 3A we have been learning about the structural and language features of a persuasive letter. We used knowledge from our excursion to Mount Wellinton and sessions with Hayley (Snug Primary’s Aboriginal Education Worker) to write a persuasive letter to the Hobart City Council on how they can further preserve Mount Wellinton. Here is a letter that we put together to showcase our work.
